Improv Corner – Improv in the Media – Rob & Romesh Vs Pt 2

If there is one thing that fascinates me about improv and that is how it is portrayed in Television, books and Film. This is becoming more and more apparent in recent years because the comedy art form is sort of in fashion. There are some interesting topics that we can gain from these ways they are displayed so every so often we are going to look at different scenes from different shows and films.

A few years ago, we discussed an episode of Rob Vs Romesh delving into the world of improv to get ready for working in a restaurant. Well, today, we are returning to the show as there was another look at improv in a more recent episode.

In Rob & Romesh versus Bollywood, the comedy duo are on a mission to appear in a Bollywood film. Due to the facts, they feel they need some help with their acting skills. They go to one of the best performing art schools in Mumbai.

When they are doing their acting lessons, there is a segment where they do something, which I think they must do as an acting exercise, but I know for a fact we do this in improv. The

The teacher gave them a scenario, both of them are on a bus, and they bash into each other and have a fight. They had to recreate this only speaking in gibberish. It is a fun piece of television. I don’t think highlights improv in a very positive way. Again, it translates badly, but it’s nice to see it in process.

Something that they do additionally to this is record the interaction so that they can watch it back later to see what the scene looked like. Whilst this there is humor, I think it was actually a really good idea.

By filming the gibberish scene, it gave me a thought. -this is a really good exercise for improv rehearsals. Whilst the words being said are not real, it gives you a great portrayal to show you how you are using the stage, what you are doing to create actions, etc, really effective.
