Today’s Featured Artist – INTERVIEW – Before The Sirens

Tell Us about:

Your latest single you have released:

‘As It Is Above is the lead single from our’ latest EP ‘As It Is Above, So It Is Below’.

Inspired by a fascination of the macro/microcosm and the impacts and effects of our actions, As It Is Above, draws reference to the bleak and broken nature of the human race and the falsities of religious beliefs.

As It Above is a textbook Before The Sirens song; Opening with soaring vocals over huge guitar arrangements, leading into hook-laden riffs and eventually complex and choppy breakdowns.

The new EP ‘As It Is Above, So It Is Below’ is out now on all major streaming platforms.

Your favourite lyric in this song:

“Entire worlds live in my palm, in the darkness of my eyes, but they’re fractured and they’re violent.”

Your favourite song that you have created that is an album track:

So It Is Below’ is the second single from Before The Sirens’ latest EP, ‘As It Is Above, So It Is Below’.

So It Is Below references the falsities of religious beliefs and stories but also the impact of the vast universe upon our microscopic existence in context.

“I have always questioned how there could possibly an omnipresent figure “above” and how that can be seen as a reasonable train of thought. “So It Is Below” is essentially my questioning of these ideas and my own take on what potentially could be out there.”

So It Is Below is a Before The Sirens anthem; Opening with melody soaked, huge guitar arrangements, leading into choppy riffs and cleverly laid vocals into a trademark chorus and eventually a monstrous breakdown.

The new EP ‘As It Is Above, So It Is Below’ is out now on all major streaming platforms.

Your favourite song to play live:

‘Higher’ off our new EP. It carries such energy from start to finish and combines all our signature elements that make a Before The Sirens song punch.

The song that was the longest to write and why?

‘All We Are’ took the longest surprisingly. The main riff to that song had been kicking around for a while once we began working on it, the song took shape really quickly but the middle section took us a really long time to pin down as we wouldn’t usually deploy a traditional middle eight. But it was worth the time taken as it’s a really refreshing direction to take the song in and finishes it off nicely.

One of your previous tracks you would recommend for first time listeners of your music and why?

Give ‘Low’ a spin. It’s a thumping monster of a song with some many different direction changes it gives a real feel for the kind of music we want to write.

Dream collaboration:

Metallica. In my opinion, the greatest metal band of all time and still killing it into their 60s!

Describe the feeling you get when you walk on stage to do a show:

I’m a ball of energy. I am usually anyway, but even more so when I’m getting ready to walk on stage. But it’s the place where I am happiest and what I enjoy doing most so it’s a huge amount of excitement.

The track that is most fun to play live:

Our previous single ‘Pull The Pin” is a lot of fun to play live. There are different time signatures and some really heavy elements in that song.

Essential items you always take on tour with you?

Various confectionary. Not necessarily because we all have a sweet tooth but namely because we like to eat, steal or generally interfere with each others snacks. So you better have some back ups!

Describe your fans in three words:

Genuinely lovely people.

A song released in the last few years by an artist or band you wish you had written:

Lightyears by The Ghost Inside. What a chorus!

What we can look forward to from your band this year:

We have plans to get out and play for as many of you as possible on the road to support the new EP.
