Welcome to a brand new feature! Every other week we are going to be looking at a different episode of a television show and delve into the world of that show! There is so many great television programmes out there that some of the are forgotten about or they even just get left behind. So let’s celebrate the world of television.
Show: Taskmaster
Episode: Melon Buffet
Original Release Date: 2015
I have a fun story about Taskmaster because I actually saw the first ever episode being recorded! I also didn’t like Taskmaster initially, I only enjoyed it when I went back to it after two or three seasons had aired and then gave it another go but I have a legitimate reason why.
The first season was recorded in Clapham Junction – I got tickets through my emails as I was emailed about it early through one of the audience ticket websites. I work in television and I knew about the show before it even was announced as Greg Davies nearly worked on a show that I was helping develop and then he chose to do the other show which ended up seeing Taskmaster so I was intrigued to see what it was all about.
We were the third recording of the day – so when our episode ended up being the first episode of the whole show I was very surprised because there was already points on the scoreboard when we saw it as they updated us at the beginning telling us who was winning etc so I was very confused.
We had no idea wat was going on at the recording as it was such a new concept it made no sense. The contestants were on the stage in front of us but all we did was watch a screen the whole recording. Watching the tasks for that episode. It was very bizarre and felt weird to be in a recording where the comedians were not even saying or doing a lot.
Obviously now, the show works and makes sense and has become a huge success. However, when you go into a situation like that recording you had no idea what was happening and I didn’t expect when I was sitting there that it would be that big. When I saw the edit initially I didn’t like it that is why I took ages to rewatch it as I found it a bit dull. it was only when it really found it’s footing I learnt to enjoy season one.
