This month for Improv Corner we are celebrating acts that are performing at the Edinburgh International Improv Festival. The event happens between the 5th-8th of March and has some fantastic acts performing. Today we are speaking to Date Night to find out all about them.
Tell us about:
Your latest improv show you are bringing to Edinburgh Improv Fest?
We’re Date Night- a team of six hotshot improvisers from Central Scotland with impeccable chemistry and a common goal: to make exactly one enemy. Daniel, Holly, Kimi, Laura, Tom and Zach will be using their patented Nemesis System ™ to gently interrogate an audience member about their minor character flaws to discover if they’re the right candidate for enmity. Unfortunately for them, this usually just leads to perfect improv, and a new friend for life.
Your favourite suggestion you have been given?
We like to ask people about their weaknesses and minor character flaws we get some wild answers about squeaky knees, whether they are or aren’t able to swim and serious medical conditions.
Your favourite venue to perform at:
The parking lot after we do our shows, where we meet our new nemesis and fight (have a friendly chat).
Improv hero:
Tom Fraser
Dream venue to play at:
Madison Square Garden
Describe the feeling you get when you walk on stage to do a show?
Genuine excitement that we get to be silly with our best friends.
The hardest improv suggestion to perform and why?
Anything that remotely reminds any of us of musical theatre because then half our team is thinking “how do we make this about musical theatre?” and the other half is thinking “how do we stop them from making this about musical theatre?”
Essential items you always take with you to a show?
Baseball bat, nunchucks, gum.
Describe your fans in three words?
Beautiful deranged enemies.
What we can look forward to from you this year:
Daniel moved to London last year and is coming back to perform with us. He misses everyone a lot so who knows maybe he’ll cry on stage.
Thank you again for all your support in reading and engaging with the website.
If you want to help support the website then you can! You can buy Holly a cup of tea (and a biscuit!)
