Magic of the Music Video – Kasabian Month – Scriptvre

Every month we will take a look at the music videos of certain artists and bands more in depth to explore just why I love them.

I am a Video Editor – and one of the things (probably the main thing) that inspired me to work in television post production was actually music videos.

Music videos are one of my favourite things in the world and I spent hours and I MEAN literally hours when I was growing up watching them Even now in the modern world, I can find myself getting lost on YouTube watching music videos for hours on end – they are an addiction.

This month we are delving into the world of Kasabian. They are one of the best indie bands in the United Kingdom and they have some really interesting music videos as they use muted colours and really fun editing techniques to bring a song alive.

Scriptvre – Kasabian

Why did you choose this particular video?

It may be one of the the later videos of Kasabian but it is a really fantastic video. It has some great editing techniques and it is a great music video. It also really gives them a new style and look for the next chapter in the bands legacy.

So, what is the narrative?

There is no narrative, the band are performing and the edit sort of messes around with the way that they are presented throughout.

Favourite parts of the video

The part of the video that really stands out in this video is the way that editing is used such a creative way to really bring the music to life. Each edit is on a beat you may not of recognised without the bold techniques put in place to make a bold statement in the video.

Another strong element of the video is the way a soft green light is used on all members of the band against a black background to create this punchy, striking video. It also as a soft blur around each of the band as well which creates a sense of mystical to it all.

Finally, animation is used is used as a really interesting way throughout to create this really intense video. Initially, there is not any of it but as the video goes on, there are skeleton illustrations and this unusual blur effect style that morphs the bands faces in close ups – very clever.
