Podcast Episodes That Changed My Life – Jim Carrey

I have always been a huge fan of podcasts, I have listened to podcasts as far back at 2008 I think it was although I never really listened to them until a few years later. My first real introduction to the world of podcasts was when I was in my last year of university and had to spend hours in the classroom with two of my friends working on our coursework into the very early hours of the morning. It would just be the three of us, myself, Matt and Tom and whilst we were working, the podcasts of The Ricky Gervais show was blasting out into the room. It was in the moment I realised that podcasts can create so much comedy and can really sort of act like a ‘best friend.’

It also sort of created a special bonding moment between the three of us and I am still very much close friends with them today.Over the years, I have learnt that podcasts can really be so much more then the ‘laugh’ and whilst I do listen to a lot of podcasts to help get me through the tough days, the good days and the times I have to work through the night, I also have found that it can be so much more.

Over the years, the idea of what a podcast is has obviously developed, especially with the pandemic and so many more have arisen and so much more content is now available and in a saturated market it can be hard to find really good shows. I have learnt that sometimes episodes of certain podcasts can really have an effect and over time I have shown my appreciation for these episodes on my social media channels.

I have previously spoken about the podcast episode that inspired me to start writing this feature, and you can read more about it here. This week we are returning to a podcast episode that is off the rails but also hilarious…

Podcast Episodes That Changed My Life
Episode:Jim Carrey
Podcast: Conan O’Brien Needs A Friend

If there is one thing that is great about interviews with Conan is that you cannot predict the sort of episode you are going to go as he is so random. When you add a guest like Jim Carrey to the mix then you know it is going to be explosive and fun.

“…whilst there are silly sides in this interview there is also parts that are in depth and a real closer insight into the comedic actor...”

At the beginning of the episode there is a warning that Jim Carrey cannot be controlled. That already is a sign of a fun episode. It was also recorded in Covid times so Jim is in his own home so it makes it even harder and there are parts of the episode where he tried to wear his microphone as a piece of clothing.

I wanted to include the interview because whilst it is a bit off the rails, and is both also funny and inspiring. Both Jim and Conan have the same energy levels so it is interesting listening to the moments when they are hyper.

The interview took place around the time Jim Carrey released his book so a lot of the conversation is based around this. Don’t let that put you off though as there are some parts of the discussion that are inspiring and also funny to listen to.

“…there is a warning that Jim Carrey cannot be controlled. That already is a sign of a fun episode...”

I find with Jim that it is very difficult to find interviews where he isn’t in character or being random whilst there are silly sides in this interview there is also parts that are in depth and a real closer insight into the comedic actor. Due to it being a podcast, I feel that this is why you get this real feeling.

It is an episode that is an inspiring listen that I would say give a listen to if you want a laugh.
