Welcome to a brand new feature! Every other week we are going to be looking at a different episode of a television show and delve into the world of that show! There is so many great television programmes out there that some of the are forgotten about or they even just get left behind. So let’s celebrate the world of television.
Show: Only Fools And Horses
Episode: Mother Nature’s Son
Original Release Date: 1992
I feel that Only Fools And Horses is one of the best comedies ever to be made. The writing is impeccable and the call backs through the show are incredibly clever. There are some episodes I am not a fan of such as the Miami one as I find it a bit silly but there are some episodes that are pure comedy gold. Everything from Batman and Robin, The Jolly Boys Outing and the yuppys just as an example. There are episodes that I feel are highly underrated. I only saw this episode for the first time in lockdown (i have no idea why I had not seen it) and instantly loved it.
Mother Nature’s Son is an episode that is a simple idea that is orchestrated so well that it is such a lot of fantastic comedy and it is so hilarious.
I am not sure if an episode like this could be made today as it was at a time when organic produce was starting to become a ‘thing’. Del Boy see’s bottled water for the first time in an organic produce grocery store that Rodney and Cassandra have started going to. Del feels it is a con and decides there is money to make out of this and decides to scam Cassandra’s friend by faking a ‘stream’ of natural water has appeared in his allotment. They then go into business in their flat taking water from the tap.
It is such a hilarious episode, especially when things start to go wrong. It is just an episode that keeps you laughing throughout that is why I love it so much.
