Magic of the Music Video – S Club 7 Month – You

Every month we will take a look at the music videos of certain artists and bands more in depth to explore just why I love them.

I am a Video Editor – and one of the things (probably the main thing) that inspired me to work in television post production was actually music videos.

Music videos are one of my favourite things in the world and I spent hours and I MEAN literally hours when I was growing up watching them Even now in the modern world, I can find myself getting lost on YouTube watching music videos for hours on end – they are an addiction.

This month we are delving into the world of S Club 7, there are so many reasons why I decided to kick off the year with this band. Firstly they are incredibly uplifting to start 2026 and I think it is a fun pop band to look at. They were around everywhere in the late nineties and early noughties as they were not just a pop band, they also had a television show on CBBC, even auditioned for S Club 8 and had a film. So let’s delve into the world this month.

You – S Club 7

Why did you choose this particular video?

I think I had only seen this video once before when I decided to write about it but it is a fun little video so I thought it would be a good mix. It is one of their more underrated songs so it means it will be fun to look back at it today.

So, what is the narrative?

Paul has come home from work to the ‘home of the future’ where Rachel is working hard to make him happy and then the other members of S Club 7 burst into the house and end up making him have more fun with them that she feels left out and jealous.

Favourite parts of the video

The House Of The Future, that is the main concept and even though it is meant to be set in the fifties it is fun to see how it comes across in 2026. The editing is really clever with the narrative is that when the members sing it pushes the story and doesn’t feel weird. It creates the emotions of jealously in such a clever way. The whole narrative is like this to reach a conclusion at the end.

Pastel colours play a huge part in this video. Initially the video is very grey and bold but as the video goes on, it becomes lighter and paler through cinematography and also due to the narrative.

The other thing that I am monitoring throughout this month is the dances and how they are edited. Again, the dance sequences are edited differently since this video has a narrative the dance routines are filmed more like a musical sequence – they are big, bold and different in each section of the video. The highlights the narrative and makes the video really fun.
