Podcast Episodes That Changed My Life – Yungblud: Boxing, Bowie, Idols…

I have always been a huge fan of podcasts, I have listened to podcasts as far back at 2008 I think it was although I never really listened to them until a few years later. My first real introduction to the world of podcasts was when I was in my last year of university and had to spend hours in the classroom with two of my friends working on our coursework into the very early hours of the morning. It would just be the three of us, myself, Matt and Tom and whilst we were working, the podcasts of The Ricky Gervais show was blasting out into the room. It was in the moment I realised that podcasts can create so much comedy and can really sort of act like a ‘best friend.’

It also sort of created a special bonding moment between the three of us and I am still very much close friends with them today.Over the years, I have learnt that podcasts can really be so much more then the ‘laugh’ and whilst I do listen to a lot of podcasts to help get me through the tough days, the good days and the times I have to work through the night, I also have found that it can be so much more.

Over the years, the idea of what a podcast is has obviously developed, especially with the pandemic and so many more have arisen and so much more content is now available and in a saturated market it can be hard to find really good shows. I have learnt that sometimes episodes of certain podcasts can really have an effect and over time I have shown my appreciation for these episodes on my social media channels.

I have previously spoken about the podcast episode that inspired me to start writing this feature, and you can read more about it here. This week we are talking about a podcast episode that looks at what it takes to be a man.

Podcast Episodes That Changed My Life
Episode: Yungblud: Boxing, Bowie, Idols…
Podcast: Pete Wick’s Man Made

If there is one thing that is incredibly important and more apparent in modern day life is the mental health and well being of men. It has been statistically proven that men still don’t talk as openly about their feelings and that is why things such as Man Shed has been set up to start the conversation.

This is a really interesting episode and I do think it is vitally important to have these conversations in this modern day society.…”

When I saw that Pete Wicks had released a new podcast called Man Made that was going to focus on these sort of topics I was intrigued. I went down the list of the first season and deliberately chose to start with the guest Yungblud.

I started liking Yungblud in 2019 when I saw him at a mini concert on a whim. I started to like him because he was a pure showman and I had never seen a musician care so much about their fans throughout the show – making sure everyone was safe and checking on those who were not. I also knew he had a way of being open about his emotions on social media and in interviews so I thought it would be an interesting listen as I suppose you could define him as a modern day style male.

The episode explores masculinity, failure, heartfelt discussions about the musician and the world around them.

“… It has been statistically proven that men still don’t talk as openly about their feelings…”

The episode has a really interesting part where it explores the process of making an album and trying to find a voice when you have lost yours due to the negative response to the last album. Trying to write personal songs on a new album instead of writing as the character of Yungblud and creating solely for a community.

It is an episode that shows Pete Wicks vulnerable side as well as Yungblud especially when they talk about the topic of fathers.

This is a really interesting episode and I do think it is vitally important to have these conversations in this modern day society.
