NEW FEATURE! Telly Addict – This Week – Miranda: Holiday

Welcome to a brand new feature! Every other week we are going to be looking at a different episode of a television show and delve into the world of that show! There is so many great television programmes out there that some of the are forgotten about or they even just get left behind. So let’s celebrate the world of television.

Show: Miranda
Episode: Holiday
Original Release Date: 2009

I got into Miranda pretty late – in fact the first episode I saw was the last one when it completely ended. I never could get on with her breaking the fourth wall and talking to the audience. Then, in 2016, I had to wait for a month for the internet so had to rely on DVDs from CEX to keep me company while I lived on my own in Newcastle. Funny how no internet can make you opinion change. I bought all seasons and binge watched them all, enjoying it for the first time.

There was one episode that initially stood out to me as it is so clever and unique that it is one of my favourite episodes even to this day.

In Season 1, episode 3, Miranda is forced to go on holiday by her family and friends – she tells them she has booked a solo trip to Thailand. Although she has not booked a holiday, instead she has booked into a hotel five minutes up the road. The whole episode is about Miranda trying to hide it as a secret but everyone finds out.

It is a fantastic episode – it has so many hilarious moments and I have seen it so many times and I never get bored of it and always laugh. It is just pure escapism.

I adore that the storyline is just so unique and actually so bizarre – that is why it is so fantastic. A lot of the comedy tends to copy ideas of others – this doesn’t and that is why it is so great.
