All this month we are celebrating acts that you need to look out for in 2026. Today we speak to West End actress Shanay Holmes about a successful 2025 and looking towards the new year.
Hello tell us all about yourself?
Hey! My name is Shanay Holmes I am an actor, singer and producer. I have just completed my run as Nancy in Oliver. I am the co founder of Musical Con the worlds biggest musical theatre fan convection.
How was 2025 for you?
I have experienced seen some of my biggest dreams realised in 2025!
What was the top 3 highlights for you?
Top 3 highlights. That’s a hard one. 1 is playing the role of Nancy. 2 is opening on the west end in Oliver. 3 being nominated for ‘best female lead in a musical”. All these 3 things have been huge bucket list pinch me moments.
What was the key lesson you learnt from last year?
Key lesson from 2024 was that just after the last “No” you ever think you’ll be able to take comes the biggest “Yes” of your career. So keep going! This industry is really really hard. It’s full of rejection you just have to focus on enjoying the journey and the work don’t let the “No’s” deter you. Stay hopeful and stay focused.
What are your plans for 2026?
2026 my dream is to chase another mountain of mine which is to write, produce and perform in my own show.
What other shows are you looking forward to watching this year?
That’s tricky. I’d love to visit Broadway to watch Hell’s Kitchen and Death Becomes Her! I’m a huge Alicia Keys fan and I’ve always loved the film version of Death Becomes Her.
What styles do you hope to see more of in theatre this year?
I would love to see something classic turned modern.
What theatre show is your one to watch in 2026 and why?
I hear that The Greatest Showman is coming I cant wait to see what they do with that on stage. The film is magical so it’s going to be a huge production to capture on stage, so I’m excited to see how they do it but also who they’ll cast.
Do you have any New Years resolutions? If so what are they?
I think it would have to be to “trust myself more” and “invest in my own self worth” this industry can make you feel that your only somebody or successful if your working or you have that big role or your consistently seen on large platforms. That’s nonsense. Success as an actor is to be constantly intrigued by the work your creating on a daily basis. Whether that be writing, producing or just resting.
