Magic of the Music Video – Busted Month – Air Hostess

Welcome BACK to the Magic of The Music Video feature! We have been having a break from this but now it is back and this time it is on the new day of Saturday afternoons! Every month we will take a look at the music videos of certain artists and bands more in depth to explore just why I love them.

I am a Video Editor – and one of the things (probably the main thing) that inspired me to work in television post production was actually music videos.

Music videos are one of my favourite things in the world and I spent hours and I MEAN literally hours when I was growing up watching them Even now in the modern world, I can find myself getting lost on YouTube watching music videos for hours on end – they are an addiction.

This month we are delving into the world of Busted and taking a look at some of the videos that I personally feel have some great editing techniques.

Air Hostess – Busted

Why did you choose this particular video?

I never really liked this song, the lyrics are so silly but it was always on the music channels when I was a kid. So I saw this video a lot. When you watch it back not a lot of it feels like it is objectifying women but we will focus on the editing.

So, what is the narrative?

The Busted guys sneak onto a flight so that they can see the air hostesses and try and win their heart. They then escape the plane before they get in trouble with security.

Favourite parts of the video?

Lets start with a fun part – there is quite a lot of ‘humour’ added into this video. It is evident through the guys facial expressions throughout. It is only little things but it goes really well with the concept of the video. The way that the video is edited means that it is emphasised throughout and creates a pace to the whole music video.

There are a lot of shots that are up close to create the closeness of an airplane. Also the way it is filmed with certain angles gives it this interesting claustrophobic feel to the video – especially the shots with all members of the band in them.

Movement is very interesting throughout the video and that is why it makes this song fun to watch. There are camera shakes, motion blurs and quick zooms ins to work with the beat of the music and to give the whole music video and creates a sense of pace.
