Tell Us about:
Your latest single you have released:
Wicked Happy starts with a punchy, high-energy guitar riff that instantly gets a crowd moving. The call and response vocals between Joel and Thom in the verses propel the song forward and build the song’s momentum for the half-time chorus, with its “reach for the sky” gang vocals ear worm. The driving outro that begins by asking “so what’s stopping you?” is the landing for this song of hope and inspiration, with the mosh pit feel flowing right through to the final chord.
Your favourite lyric in this song:
“Reach for the sky. So what’s stopping you?”
Your favourite song that you have created that is an album track:
“Summer Love (In Hell)” from the Posters On My Wall EP showcases the elements of our songs that make us stand out from much of the conventional pop punk scene. The drop D tuning and metal-influenced intro riff with the catchy, syncopated, high-energy vocal melodies, along with a guitar solo from Thomas Turner, make this song a favourite for us.
Your favourite song to play live:
“Shine” from our Posters On My Wall EP is a tribute to Thom’s (lead guitar) late mother that weaves story-telling and emotional connection into a catchy, energetic melody. When we play it live, the three-part vocals always put a strong grip on the audience’s attention, particularly when the quiet bridge if followed by the final chorus. I think it showcases the best of who we are as a band in terms of the variety of parts, the power of the lyrics and the earworm, anthemic chorus.
The song that was the longest to write and why?
Final mystery. Thom had a scene in his head of this person wandering through a hall of mirrors and seeing their mistakes reflected in them. He wanted to reflect that cinematic view through the lyrics to go along with the overall vibe of the music. It took a long, long time to get the lyrics to work. He took a lot of inspiration from Coheed and Cambria and Claudio’s story telling style.
Your most emotional track:
Definitely “Shine” about Thom’s late mother. On top of the original meaning of the song, with Joel now on lead vocals and having suddenly lost his own father in 2016, performing it live has become extra powerful for us and has helped us connect with fans who have had their own experiences losing a parent.
Dream collaboration:
Dan Campbell from The Wonder Years. The authenticity combined with the energy that his voice brings to music is so inspiring. The features he did on songs with Trash Boat and Meet Me @ The Altar were incredible.
Describe the feeling you get when you walk on stage to do a show:
Getting up on stage for a live show is the most freeing thing in the world. It’s the place I feel the most myself where I can give my all and express myself to crowds of people in a way that just feels like it fits for me.
The hardest track to play live:
We have an unreleased track called “Look Me in the Eye” that is by far our most technical song to date, and we plan to record and release it in the next year. It has some similar vibes to “Summer Love” from our EP but much faster riffs involving both guitars and the bass, as well as a couple of breakdowns with double kick patterns that drummers who have jammed with us always need a lot of practice to do. We can’t wait to share this song with the world!
Essential items you always take on tour with you?
Books to pass long hours on the road. Especially as a Canadian band, cities are not close together, and I like to make the most of my time by reading and learning about history, human rights and politics in different parts of the world.
Describe your fans in three words:
Real, passionate, misfits
A song by another artist or band you wish you had written:
“In Bloom” by Neck Deep to me was the perfect song for me the year it came out. Like Ben from Neck Deep, I had lost my dad suddenly and was struggling to stay afloat. In addition to be catchy and poetic, that song perfectly captured where I was at and still means a lot to me every time I hear it. I’m planning to make it the subject of my next tattoo.
What we can look forward to from your band this year:
Now that we’ve released our first new song in five years, we plan to keep the momentum going. We’re working now on booking studio time, likely for early 2026, to record a few more singles to release throughout the year. We’ll also be doing some regional mini tours within British Columbia and possibly a bit further. We’re also going to put a lot of focus on developing our live show to bring an even more energetic experience to our fans.
