This year The Phoenix Remix turns ten years old! To celebrate a decade, every Saturday of 2025 we are going to take a look back at some of the articles and interviews from over the years.
Name of Article: That time when – I got knocked out by a Mannequin
Original Publish Date: 9th September 2017
Welcome to a brand new feature on The Phoenix Remix – thats right! New things come in threes! I was talking to one of my friends the other day and we got onto talking about some really random things and then turned to me and told me I should really tell the world some of these stories as they are so random – so thats what I have decided to do! Everything that you read in these articles is 100% true apart from the names may be changed to protect identities.
I am going to start with a story that happened the first time i went to North London – I dont mean the North of Central i mean North North London – and its a story that I remember a lot just because of the comedy factor and also because it happened around the same time that Doctor Who was launched and it was a similar storyline to what they were showing.
Anyway, we were out for the day shopping, nothing fancy just visiting a new shopping centre to see what deals there was, any decent things to buy etc. We went into a very popular shopping and clothes brand store. I don’t remember a lot about this particular shop, I just remember there being a lot of clothes around and a lot of displays. So there I was just minding my own business looking at what the shop had to offer, then all of I sudden i woke up on the floor not knowing what had just happened.
It took a few minutes to adjust to the situation and to work out as to why I was on the floor and members of the staff were walking fast towards me to see if i am ok. I felt a little fuzzy, and looked at the body lying next to me – a big tall, white, expressionless body – no it wasn’t another human being – it was a mannequin. Apparently what had happened was there was a little girl around the age of 4 pulling on the dresses of one of the models and i happened to be walking past at the exact same moment the mannequin decided to topple over and knock me out with its head.
Now, let me tell you one thing about mannequins that I never knew before – their heads are flipping heavy – they are made of metal and not just a light one a pretty heavy one. Luckily for me – I only needed an ice pack and I wasn’t suffering a major concussion but since that day I have still be a bit weary of mannequins – they may not move like in Doctor Who but trust me, you don’t want one to head bang you!
