Today we speak to Malcolm and Ben from the Theatre Company Agents of Chaos about their brand new show that they are bringing to Old Red Lion on the 25th and 26th October at 6:30pm as part of this years Grimfest. Today we find out all about the dark comedy mystery.
Hello! Tell us about yourself?
We’re a group of recently graduated MA acting students ready to make an impact in the theatre world. And when we say impact we mean getting away with the most fun as humanly possible onstage with a cracking applause to boos ratio (High applause, low boos (in case you were wondering)).
Tell us a bit about the show Fool’s Gold:
Fool’s Gold is a dark comedy mystery set in a graveyard where professional ‘covert excavator’ (grave robber) David is on his final mission. It’s all going swimmingly until, instead of his usual partner, Johnny, a buffoon with marigolds turns up who knows everything about the plan…. and just a little too much about David too.
How are rehearsals going?
Lots of crying and plenty of shouting – the tension in the rehearsal room is undeniable and this leads to a (sometimes) productive working environment.
What can you tell us about the stage set?
There will be a gravestone. There will be dingy lights and foggy mists. And there will be dirt – lots and lots of dirt. Because we’re getting our hands dirty (both physically and metaphorically)
Tell us a little bit more about the rest of the cast:
The cast consists of Edd Pullen, the tallest. Ben Whittle, the most organsied. Alec Osborne, the bossiest. And Malcolm Webb, the most arrogant.
What is the most challenging thing about doing the show?
Making sure that the violence in the play does not become a reality, because as we all know too well, life imitates art… Only joking, we all love working with one another and I’m definitely not being held at gunpoint by Ben to say this.
The best thing about touring the show?
Working with Ben. Honestly he’s the best guy I know and I think Alec and Edd would agree wholeheartedly. Definitely still not being held at gunpoint.
What have been some of the best highlights since doing the show?
A fond memory of mine is when Edd fell flat on his face during the first performance when we debuted the piece back in March (the fall was unintentional and thus added to hilarity of his humiliation). Other highlights include getting through a hell of a lot of cheese and pickle sandwiches, both in rehearsals and during the performances themselves! We are easily pleased over here.
What is the best reaction you have had from an audience member?
Audible gasps are always a plus. And let me tell you, that wasn’t purely due to the fact my trousers fell down in the final performance (but that certainly may have contributed to it)
If people want to follow you on social media where can they find you?
We’re on Instagram! Currently in the midst of releasing a five part documentary on our rehearsal process so check it out: @agentsofchaostheatre
Finally in three words why should people come to your show?
Unlike anything seen.
