Films are something that we all look towards for escapism – the action, the humour, the romance, the animation. Sometimes these can hold so much more meaning then just an image on a screen and create narratives and memories in our own lives. Welcome to the sister article to Music Memories where we take a look at some of these personal stories attached to films.
Film: Spider-Man 2
Original Release Date: 2004
I have always been a fan of superheroes – Batman was introduced to me from a very early age as the 1960’s television show was always on television in the morning as I was getting ready for the childminders in the morning in the nineties. Another superhero I remember is Spiderman – I can’t remember how old I was when I was aware of him but there was the animation and then Tobey Maguires films happened.
I really enjoyed these films they were so great. The first one was such a fantastic action film that it instantly became a favourite. I really adore Spiderman 2, I saw it back to back in the cinema with Shrek 2.
There was one thing about Spiderman 2 I truly loved and still do to this day is the opening title sequence – it is truly utterly amazing.
I would say that these opening titles inspired me to work in Motion Graphics – that is how much they had an impact on me. They are used to recap the first film whilst also using web to create a real webslinger of an intro. It is so amazing.
Facts about Spider-Man 2

- The train fight between Doc Ock and Spider-Man was the idea of director Sam Raimi and the first major sequence to be filmed.
- Willem Dafoe was not originally supposed to return for this movie, but he was walking back to his apartment one night and saw the cast and crew filming nearby. He stopped by the set to say hello and the filmmakers decided to give him a cameo appearance.
- The first, and as of 2023, only live action Spider-Man film to win an Oscar.
