Tell us about:
Your latest single you have released:
Our most recent release is Fade Away, it’s a song about love and loss and the journey in between. It’s a fast paced upbeat anthem of a track, about holding onto memories while learning to let go.
Your favourite lyric in this song:
“The way you left your scent on me after weeks of stealing my souls hoodie, and the night you snuck out of your home by climbing out your second floor window” Is part of the 2nd verse of the song. These 2 lines mean a lot to me because 1 they reflect our actual past, Dizzy and I used to sneak in and out of her dads house from the 2 story window. And the first part being the stealing of the hoody, part of my life in punk rock has always been stealing clothes from friends and them stealing from me.
We always had a ton of different band shirts and we would always steal from each other the way that brothers and sisters do. That’s always been something I cherished from when I was younger.
Your favourite song that you have created that is an album track:
My favourite song on this record I would have to say is “All or None”. Its actually our next release from the album, and it’s all about our childhood, how we grew up and some of the hardships we went through. The lyrics on this track are definitely my favourite.
Your favourite song to play live:
My favourite song to play live is probably “Sidelines”. This is a song from the album that has not come out yet, it’s a fast paced song, it has ska, it has yelling, it’s got a sick bass solo part. It’s just a killer song. lots of fun to play!
The song that was the longest to write and why?
“Darkest Days” was probably the hardest to write, especially the way we wrote it. This song was written in the studio essentially with only some of the drums and partial rhythm guitar written at the time. Mason made some of the drums up on the spot, and that night I wrote the rest of the rhythm guitar.
The next day at our AirBNB we wrote bass and lead guitar. Then it took me a week of writing and rewriting lyrics with dizz ’til we came to what it is now. It wasn’t necessarily the longest to write, but it was DEFINITELY the most chaotic and stressful. We love how it came out though, it’s a badass song.
Your most emotional track:
Ok, this is different for us, but the track “Nov. 3rd” is undoubtedly our most emotional track. It was a hard song to write, its essentially about the worst day of my life. That’s all i’ll say about it… That being said, I still love the song and think it came out great.
Dream collaboration:
Dream collaboration is easily Travis Barker, He’s been doing so much for the punk / pop punk community lately and it would be an insane opportunity to work with him on a song. He’s an absolute legend.
Describe the feeling you get when you walk on stage to do a show:
Anxiety and excitement. I love playing music. There’s so many things I’m unsure of at any given moment in my life, but how I feel about music and my band is not one of them. Half Dizzy is one of the best bands in the world and I’m blessed to be a part of it. These songs are some of my favourite works of art and I’m just happy to be here doing this. I love playing live with the people in my band, we all have so much fun together. All we do is laugh and have fun on stage and try to get everyone else involved as well. It’s just a big dizzy party.
The hardest track to play live:
Hardest track is probably “Starting to Believe” which is on the b side of the vinyl but it’s a KILLER track. It’s the fastest song we’ve ever recorded, I have to sing harmony while playing more/faster than I normally do, it has a shredding lead guitar, the bass riffs are nuts, and the drums are just ridiculously fast and all over the place in a good way. It is definitely a chaotic song to play but it’s badass! and it has a breakdown in it, so that’s always fun.
Essential items you always take on tour with you?
I always have Vegan chocolate to sooth the vegan monster in the van (Mina). I have forgotten it once before…never again. Other than that, comfy clothes for the van because that’s where we spend most of our time. lots of water for the ride so we don’t dehydrate, nuts for snacking. Other than that basic essentials (soap, change of clothes, deodorant, etc..) OH and we try to bring our own air mattresses, so to be comfy.
Describe your fans in three words:
The best people in the whole wide world. It always excites / confuses me when people tell me they love our band. I think our music is great but I never expect anyone to give us a chance. Hearing anyone sing our song, wear our shirt, put our sticker on their water bottle, whatever it may be, It’s seriously an honour to be heard by anyone. We’re not entitled to anything, but when someone gives us their ears willingly and decides on us, it really means everything.
A song by another artist or band you wish you had written:
Every song off of, “Take This To Your Grave” by Fall Out Boy. This is an album we have listened to front to back every single time we went on the road together, it’s part of our tradition. This album is a banger front to back and there’s nothing better.
What we can look forward to from your band this year:
This year we have a ton of music coming out. Singles, a split acoustic ep, and a full length coming out at the end of the year, so keep your eyes peeled, your ears open, and your dancing shoes on. Thanks for reading. Dizzy Crew!
