How did you come up with the name of your show that your taking to the Camden fringe?
Long answer: Wizard Guide to Saving the World is exactly what it says. It’s wizard. It’s got a wizard in it. And we need all the help we can get to save the world right now. There’s a legacy title knocking around – it’s got a definite article and the name of a well-known wizard in brackets – that’s what comes of filling in forms while a show is in development.
Short answer: magic.
Tell us a little bit about your style of show?
It takes the shape of a character standup but swiftly veers into left-leaning absurdity – all with an underscore of ‘is this really happening?’.
What other acts are you looking forward to seeing at the fringe?
I’m bringing the show from Wales – up on the day of the first performance, back home next day after that show – so time to see other stuff is obviously limited. Rather than planning I shall take potluck and dive into something on Saturday 16th.
How are rehearsals going?
It’s a lot of script, and there are magic tricks to boot. So far, rehearsals are broadening the horizons of what is possible. It’s exciting. How are rehearsals going? I’ll let the audience be the judge of that.
What is the best thing about performing at the Camden fringe?
It’s my first time at the Camden Fringe. I’ve played in a lot of Fringe venues around the country – including, back in the day, before I moved to Wales, a lot of London spaces. Speaking to other performers at festivals there’s always a buzz about Camden. But somehow Camden got away from me. Until now. The Museum of Comedy is in Bloomsbury and I love that neck of the woods. I did a not-long-pre-Covid show in the Bloomsbury Waterstones. It went very well.
London can be an expensive place to perform in – what key advice would you give to performers that is a sort of life hack?
Don’t spend all your budget on stage – use your imagination: it’s theatre not a documentary.
Who would be your ultimate dream audience member?
Sir Ian McKellen – it’s a show about wizards.
The iconic image of the Camden Fringe is the Pigeon – if you could call this years pigeon a name to represent its style what would it be and why?
KIEJAR. Because it’s too cool to coo. (Cookie Jar…) (sorry) (bad joke in progress)

And Finally in three words – Why should people come and see the show?
