How did you come up with the name of your show that your taking to the Camden fringe?

AC: The average family size in the UK is 2.36 people. Our play explores the relationships and pressures within families so it felt fitting. Our play also ends at 02:36am – you’ll see why!

Tell us a little bit about your style of show?

EL:  2.36 is character driven – the dialogue between Josh & Keira is naturalistic. They live in a believable world. However to drive the pace of the story, we’re breaking the fourth wall, using narration to explore thematic elements. We’re also playing with the use of time to create suspense. There’s comedy mixed with drama and mystery.

Our director, Haiqing Liang, ‘specialises in directing plays and devised theatre that interrogates contemporary socio-political phenomena through an intersectional and diasporic lens’. It’s a fun mixture of styles!

What other acts are you looking forward to seeing at the fringe?

EL: The other 8 LAMDA alumni shows! It’s quite an impressive jump from last year – where there was only one staff show, and the double bill last year – where my play Soultide premiered.

How are rehearsals going?

AC: Rehearsals are going really well. It’s been pretty low-stress since Elijah and I are the only actors in the play and also the writers, so we have a clear sense of how each scene should be performed. We haven’t had to worry about learning lines or casting anyone else, which has definitely made the process smoother.

What is the best thing about performing at the Camden fringe?

AC: It’s a fantastic opportunity to showcase your work and connect with others in the industry. It’s also a fun and accessible way to get involved in theatre.

Performing in a real theatre is an incredibly exciting and rewarding experience. With countless roles behind the scenes as well as on stage, there’s something for everyone—so even if performing isn’t your thing, you can still be part of it.

London can be an expensive place to perform in – what key advice would you give to performers that is a sort of life hack?

AC: Always befriend someone with a sofa. Jokes aside, share rehearsal spaces, split props costs, and keep an eye out for fringe venues that offer profit splits or rehearsal time. And never underestimate the power of a well-timed Pret subscription!

Who would be your ultimate dream audience member?

EL: Luc Frieden, Prime Minister of Luxembourg. I’m hoping he’ll fund us for a transfer to the Grand Theatre of Luxembourg, followed by a regional tour. I’ll be writing to his PA after this interview.

The iconic image of the Camden Fringe is the Pigeon – if you could call this years pigeon a name to represent its style what would it be and why?

EL: Lucilinburhuc, one of the ancient names of Luxembourg. As you can see, I’m quite obsessed with Luxembourg.

If people want to find out more about you where can they follow you on social media?

And Finally in three words – Why should people come and see the show?

AC: ‘Entertaining, relatable and witty.’
