Hello! Tell us about yourself?

Britt Migs is a standup & sketch comedian living and working in NYC. In 2024, both New York Comedy Festival and Knockouts Comedy Festival named her a “Creator to Watch.” You can see her performing comedy around the city and at her bi-monthly show at Union Hall, “Sunday Sauce”.

You may have also caught her on the road at the Asheville Comedy Festival, SF Sketchfest, Alaska B4UDie Comedy Festival, Vail Comedy Festival, Vermont Comedy Festival, or opening for Hari Kondabolu on tour. You can see her writing in Reductress, FlexxMag, Slackjaw, The Take, and others. You can see her digital work on Cracked’s Instagram and TikTok. By day, Britt works as an Emmy award-winning TV & digital producer.

When she’s not doing all of that you can find her watching horror movies with her cats, Bo + Tony Soprano.

Tell us all about your show!

Dolphin Mode is a solo show about my unique and comically bad divorce, having to come out (and date) all over again in your 30s, and the healing power of going dolphin mode. You’ll hit speed bumps like heartbreak, dating, dealing with feral men in my dms, and having to come out a second time to family and friends. But then you’ll glide through smoother waters like my beautiful new queer life!

How the show came to be…

Dolphin Mode came to me in pieces and then all at once when I realized that joking about my divorce was the best way to process it. It’s been a real labor of love and loss. When I was going through my divorce, along with support from family and friends, comedy was what really saved my life. In the beginning, it was not only what got me out of bed and out of the house but when I finally allowed myself to start making jokes about what was happening to me, it was like a whole new world opened up for me. I felt GOOD. Plus, the first time I posted a joke about my divorce online, my ex husband texted me “Oh, so you’re serious” and finally signed the papers. I was robbed of so much (even my victimhood) so my jokes and this show were my way of reclaiming the narrative and turning the most lemony of all lemons into lemonade.

But the show is also about how my life got so much better once I got gayer. As the months drew on and I started writing jokes about dating…gay dating…and then my new gay relationship, I realized that I had the perfect narrative arc for a show. By the way, “Oh, so you’re serious” was also what my family said when I started gay dating. Go figure!

How did you come up with the name of your show that you’re taking to the fringe?

One of my jokes about getting back into the dating game ends with me quite literally turning into a dolphin. It’s one of my favorites and I used to use it as my closer. As I was crafting the show, I realized that dolphins would be a pretty good mascot. They symbolize transformation, rebirth, freedom, and the importance of community. Plus dolphins have been known to do gay stuff! But really, post-divorce I feel like that meme where a dolphin is smiling, often through something difficult, with Lisa Frank rainbows and hearts around it. I am still swimming! Despite it all! And I’m loving it!

What other acts are you looking forward to seeing at the fringe?

Put a list of your friends shows or shows you have heard about, if you don’t have this info you could put

There are SO MANY shows I want to see. I’m eager to see as much comedy as possible but also want to go see magic, theater, and drag! I have a few friends performing at the Fringe that I will absolutely be seated for.

  • Maria Mainelli: Fly Trap
  • Nick Hornedo: Watch This When You Get Home
  • Liz Coin: Lizzy Sunshine
  • Ismael Loutfi: Heavenly Baba
  • Syd King: Saint Sydney
  • Cat Cohen: Broad Strokes

Talk us through your daily routine for a day at the Fringe

This is my fringe debut but I imagine that this is what my daily routine will be:

  • 9am: Wake up, grab a chai or something with low caffeine so I don’t increase my already rapidly beating heart (show jitters!)
  • 9:30am: Do some work (I am keeping my job as a video producer while I’m at the Fringe, pray for me).
  • 11:30am: Shower, get into HMU, get into my ONE show outfit which conveniently cuts down on time picking out an outfit.
  • 12:00pm: Do some warmups, run a few sections/jokes from the show
  • 1:30pm: Head over to the venue (I am a beautiful 25 min walk away – what a dream!)
  • 2:00pm: Go to the bathroom as many times as humanly possible before lights up.
  • 2:15pm: It’s showtime, baby!!!
  • 1:15pm: Take a bow, grab some grub, I’ve earned it.
  • 1:30pm: Depending on the day, I may head home to finish up some work or go check out a show, the world is my oyster!!!
  • 6:30pm: Dinner, then show hopping. I want to see it all!
  • Midnight: Time for bed so I can do it all again tomorrow

What is the best way to enjoy yourself at the fringe?

As a first timer, I can’t say for sure but I think it’s about living in the moment (cliche?) I mean, you’re in Scotland at what is essentially summer camp for performers – look around and SOAK IT IN! See every show you possibly can, or at least every type of show you can. Try new things, eat new foods, make new friends! This is my plan, anyways.

Ok, where is your favourite place to eat at the Fringe?

PLEASE hit me with recs since it’s my first time! I’m pasta-obsessed so anything Italian would be great but would also love to try the local cuisine! As a sweets girl I am also dying to try Lannan Bakery…if the line isn’t too long.

Best thing about performing at the fringe?

As a performer, The Fringe is legendary. It’s a place where you can hone your craft, make a name for yourself, make your dreams come true! It’s been a goal of mine to perform there ever since I became aware of it. A whole village of performers? Living and working and putting on shows together for a month? It sounds made up but it’s real and we get to live it!!!

Top tips for travelling around the Fringe and getting to shows on time?

I am going to use my New York street skills to run and duck around everyone. If I can get to work on time after taking the subway to Times Square during rush hour, I can handle the Fringe!

What would be your top three items every performer must take to the fringe?

Lozenges, tums/pepto (for pre-show tummy troubles), and the confidence of Beyonce

what’s the secret to successful flyering?

Get used to hearing no and being okay with it! And SMILE till it hurts.
