Hello! Tell us about yourself?

Hey! I’m Alex Prescot, a musical comedian and improviser bringing my debut comedy hour to Underbelly this year: ‘Alex Prescot: Cosy’.

Tell us all about your show!

The show is a warm and fuzzy blend of joyful musical comedy and quick-witted improvisation, tailor-made for each audience, with one notably absent double-act partner.  It’s on at 11:45am so it’s a great way to kick start your day!

I’m also performing in ‘A Jaffa Cake Musical’ at 2pm at Pleasance, which is returning to Edinburgh after a sell-out run last year!

What other acts are you looking forward to seeing at the fringe?

Currently top of my (very long) list are Claire Parry, Andy Watts, Kathy Maniura, Anna Hale, Sam Nicoresti, Su Mi, Rohan Sharma, John Tothill, Jordan Gray and Cat Cohen – all brilliant!

Have you done the fringe before? What are the key pieces of advice you have been given or would give to new groups or people performing at the fringe.

I’ve done the fringe in some capacity (performer, director or punter!) for the past 10 years, but this is my first time taking up a solo hour so I’m super excited!

My best piece of advice is a golden oldie: it’s a marathon not a sprint (especially if you’re doing the whole month).

Also, I think it’s useful to have clear goals going in and to try not to compare yourself to everyone else for the whole month…easier said than done!

Talk us through your daily routine for a day at the Fringe

My primary goal for Edinburgh is always to try and not get ill – pretty sexy huh!

So I’ll probably do similar what I did last year which was get up (essential), do a vocal and physical warm up before my show, flyer, do my show, coffee, do ‘A Jaffa Cake Musical’, have a celebratory orange juice and lemonade, see a show or two and then bed at a respectable hour.

Then just rinse and repeat for a month!

Ok, where is your favourite place to eat at the Fringe?

Africano Wrap Place – an absolute must.

Best thing about performing at the fringe?

You can strike up a conversation with absolutely anybody – just to be surrounded by that many people enjoying shows and exchanging recommendations is a huge buzz and why people (me) keep coming back.

What is the hardest part about performing at the Fringe?

One. Day. Off.

What are your best hacks to save money whilst at the Fringe?

I mean it’s not “cool” and makes me “a big dork” but my best hack is to not drink alcohol for the month (but also like…if you want to, do, it just saves loads of money and also means I am more likely to achieve my primary goal of Edinburgh – not getting ill.).

What would be your top three items every performer must take to the fringe?

Piano, ukulele and laptop with QLab (this one might be mainly for me?)

what’s the secret to successful flyering?

I try and see it like a game of spotting people who might be interested in the show, having a short pitch you can say in one breath and then throwing in a few silly ones to amuse yourself (e.g. “Deep fat flyer?” – classique)

If people want to find out more about you where can they follow you on social media?

I’m on everything @alexpcomedy

And Finally in three words – Why should people come and see the show?

Joyous musical pick-me-up!
