Hello! Tell us about yourself?

Hi, I’m Jacob. I’m from Mansfield in the midlands, don’t judge me too harshly. I’m quite deadpan. I’ve been told I’m unassuming so you wouldn’t think I’m a comedian. But I promise I am, don’t listen to what they say in Mexborough.

Don’t take my word for it. I’ve won Bury Met Comedian of the Year, and was listed in Chortle’s ‘one to watch’ 2023. You’ve just got to hope I haven’t gotten worse in the last 2 years.

Tell us all about your show!

It’s my debut show, Primed. It’s a show about my time working for Amazon. I’ve got loads of jokes at their expense, and a lot a my own to be fair. Everyone uses Amazon so it’s a peek behind the other side of the curtain. Hopefully I can clear up some people’s preconceptions.

I also talk about stately homes, unsuccessful job interviews, and sandwiches. Who doesn’t love a sandwich? There’s something for everyone.

What other acts are you looking forward to seeing at the fringe?

Lots. Too many to name! Phil Ellis, Pat Cahill, and Ian Stone always do great shows. Shalaka Kurup is on right after me, I’d definitely recommend her. But if I had to pick one then Michelle Wolf. She doesn’t come to the UK very often so that would be a treat.

Have you done the fringe before? What are the key pieces of advice you have been given or would give to new groups or people performing at the fringe.

I’ve performed for a week as part of Best in Class, but never the full month. Advice I’ve been told is don’t eat Gregg’s everyday, which is a challenge for me. Eat at least something healthy every day, by the end of the month you’ll thank yourself for it.

If this is your first time – what are you looking forward to?

Performing my hour show every day will be fun! There’s nowhere else you could do that. I’ll come back a better performer.

Talk us through your daily routine for a day at the Fringe

It’s quite boring really. I’d try to do some writing, procrastinate. Go and watch a show, then flyer and perform at my own show. Have a few drinks afterwards, and do it all over again! Like groundhog day. Somewhere in between that I’d try to eat a sausage roll and sleep.

Ok, where is your favourite place to eat at the Fringe?

Let Me Eat on the Grassmarket. They do some amazing wraps! So it still sort of feels like you’re having a kebab, but they trick you into being healthy.

Best thing about performing at the fringe?

Usually you’re in a different city every day. It’s nice to see the same performers every day, comedy can be quite solitary with the travel. But at the fringe we’re all in the same boat. If you’re having a bad day it’s nice to be able to talk it over with someone going through the same. And if you’re having a great run, keep quiet!

What is the hardest part about performing at the Fringe?

You want to make the most of the fringe and it’s so busy! The lack of sleep can really catch up with you.

Do you bring anything special from home to make it feel more special whilst you are away?

A book I plan to read but never leaves the shelf. Just like home.

What are your best hacks to save money whilst at the Fringe?

Too good to go app, performers tend to be out at unusual times so we can get some good deals. But if you don’t have the app then shoplifting!

What would be your top three items every performer must take to the fringe?

A coat, a phone charger and a backpack is always handy.

What’s the secret to successful flyering?

Charisma, which is why I’m not a great flyerer. But talking to people, if they like you they’ll come to your show.

If people want to find out more about you where can they follow you on social media?

And Finally in three words – Why should people come and see the show?

It’s really funny!
