Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2025

Travel Book – FRINGE TRAVEL EDITION – Musselburgh

When you are at the Fringe there may be a day or so when you want a break away from the main area of Edinburgh. So over July, we are going to look at areas you could potentially visit from the city for a mini day trip. Each can be either a full day or a half and I have been to all of them so thought it would be find to share this month.

MUSSELBURGH

The first location we are going to talk about it a coastal town which is only about a twenty four minute journey away if you drove. It is easy to get to both by train and bus from Central Edinburgh.

The town has a rich history all related to the sea and even the Romans. The historical town is known as ‘the Honest Toun’. Whilst it is a popular for it’s racecourse, the one reason to visit it the beach.

Musselburgh has a wonderful beach that allows you to walk along the sand and get some great views of the coast including Angus Seat on a good day. There is a lovely harbour and even a mussel statue to represent the rich history.

It is a place that makes a fun day out if you want a break from the hustle and bustle of Edinburgh, breathing in the sea air, having lots of places to shop and walk can be really refreshing.
