Hello! Tell us about yourself?
Hi! I’m Amelie Peters, a full-time international vocal coach, singer, songwriter and creator of the world’s sassiest sing-along show. I help everyday girlies bring back the nostalgia of the choir room, in a cute 60 minute pop up show at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival!
Tell us all about your show!
Sink or SING! Is an interactive cabaret singing show that follows a series of 10 original songs that touch on daily struggles of a girl’s life. The audience gets taught a few little vocal techniques and learns to sing the hooks throughout the show. It’s cute, fun and girly af!
What other acts are you looking forward to seeing at the fringe?
Acts with big voices, brilliant musical comedy song writing and insane costumes (preferably with sparkles!) Also keeping an eye out for fellow Aussie performers… Aussie, Aussie, Aussie – Oi Oi Oi!
Have you done the fringe before? What are the key pieces of advice you have been given or would give to new groups or people performing at the fringe.
Nope! I’m an Edinburgh Fringe Festival virgin. That being said, last year I watched a few shows at the festival as a punter – does this mean Edi just put the tip in?
If this is your first time – what are you looking forward to?
Scottish girlies singing their hearts out! I’m so curious to see how the Aussie comedy lands in Sink or SING! with a Scottish audience but also… don’t be shy Scottish boys, I see you too hehe.
Talk us through your daily routine for a day at the Fringe
As a punter – live my best fucking life and watch 1000 shows whilst getting lit.
As a performer – wake up with existential dread and fear, once I’m done with that it’s like a 9-5 vibe. Exercise, vocal steam/vocal check in & breakky in the morning. Emails, admin, socials, vocal coach online and calls then lunch. Depending on the show time slot, usually I’d get ready around dinner time with hair and makeup, smash something for dinner before making my way to the venue. Vocal steam again at the venue, make my cuppa tea and perform! Once the show is over, I can’t wait to get home, take my makeup off and just curl up in a ball to be an introvert doom scrolling TikTok once again. Rinse and repeat.
Ok, where is your favourite place to eat at the Fringe?
I’m a newbie, perhaps a cute Scottish Lad can take me on a date and show me their favourite place – hehe!
What is the hardest part about performing at the Fringe?
Probably the lifestyle, it’s quite lonely on the road.
Do you bring anything special from home to make it feel more special whilst you are away?
YES! I always have my Aussie snacks with me no matter where I go. This could be TimTams, Cheezles, Caramello Koalas or Fairy Bread. If you’re lucky, you may just find some Aussie snacks at Sink or SING!…
What are your best hacks to save money whilst at the Fringe?
You’re talking to the most savvy person on the planet! This is where I shine! Word of mouth is the most valuable information you will find. If you know someone, or know of someone who has attended the Fringe before – ask them for advice and actually listen. (Unless they’re a dickhead.)
Food – Grocery Shop/Meal Prep over eating out. Will save you sooooo much.
Travel – Public Transport, check the deals online before purchasing.
Accom – Make friends so you can crash on couches and if you’re lucky, they might just have a spare room for you. In the event you can’t do this, there’s heaps of AirBnbs, temporary sublet forums and Sugar Dad… I mean friendly people who can help. Apparently if Edinburgh is out of your price range, another option is going to Glasgow and catching a 1hr train to Edinburgh.
What would be your top three items every performer must take to the fringe?
- Your favourite emotional support water bottle/tea cup – your voice is your strongest asset during the fringe festival. Keep those vocal folds hydrated.
- An umbrella, it’ll probs rain!
- Snacks!!!!
what’s the secret to successful flyering?
I’ve done a bit of research on this, Jeromaia Detto is another Aussie fringe artist who’s known to be the wise one on flyering and gave me some advice. Take this with a grain of salt because I haven’t actually done this yet buuuuuut here are my tips/understanding:
- Know your target audience.
- Be mindful about flyering etiquette (don’t cut another Artist’s lunch/flyering pitch.)
- Show enthusiasm, authenticity and interest in the person you’re talking to.
- Have fun! At the end of the day, if your energy is in a good place people will respond positively to that.
- My plan is to bribe with snacks, I can report back on this hehe.
If people want to find out more about you where can they follow you on social media?
Instagram is where most of the girlies go to find out more!
There’s a sad Facebook page that could do with some love as well as a baby TikTok account. Despite the fact there’s low numbers on the following front, I will say I actually had someone make a fake account of me on TikTok! I’m not sure if I’m flattered or concerned… probably the latter.
And Finally in three words – Why should people come and see the show?
Singing gives endorphins!!!
Thank you again for all your support in reading and engaging with the website.
