Hello! Tell us about yourself?

I’m Barry! Barry ferns.

This is my 25th year coming to the Fringe! (I started very young and did my first gig when I was 16!)

I also am the founder of Angel Comedy and The Bill Murray in London, and I lived 7 years of my life as Lionel Richie. FACT

Tell us all about your show!

My show is all about how I ended up being homeless and Bankrupt from doing Edinburgh fringe shows – and then got offered a £½ million TV contract that could get me out of my predicament… all on one condition….

What other acts are you looking forward to seeing at the fringe?

I love Matt Parker, and Heidi Regan both brilliant acts. And my HOT TIP is Thor Stenhaug, Thor started his Stand Up Career at Angel Comedy, and we’ve always known what a HOT talent he is (and a lovely lovely man too!)

Have you done the fringe before? What are the key pieces of advice you have been given or would give to new groups or people performing at the fringe.

Key Advice Given to me:

Don’t worry what anyone else is doing FOMO was first invented at the Edinburgh fringe in 1973

Key Advice To Give:

Bring a bike – if only to experience the bone-shaking-teeth-rattling cobbled streets as a way to wake up in the mornings.

Talk us through your daily routine for a day at the Fringe

One year I climbed Arthurs Seat every day, and it was a great routine – I absolutely recommend it. Rain or Shine. Honestly. Sounds mad, but it’s like a breath of fresh air – an aggressively strong breath of fresh air that makes you feel like your lungs are goes to explode.

Good honest Air.

I also like to seek out very random shows – Twonkeys Kingdom is a regular random favourite

Ok, where is your favourite place to eat at the Fringe?

A packed Lunch on Top of Arthurs Seat!

Best thing about performing at the fringe?

The fact like it’s an olympic village of other performers – everyone is there and you don’t know who’s around the next corner. It’s like living IN a snowglobe, only it’s not snow, it’s drizzle.

What is the hardest part about performing at the Fringe?

The fact that you ALWAYS get ill at some point and your voice goes and you get so foggy headed you forget your show and THAT is the day all the reviewers come. (They can smell weakness)

Do you bring anything special from home to make it feel more special whilst you are away?

My Lucky mattress topper – I can’t sleep without my lucky mattress topper.

What are your best hacks to save money whilst at the Fringe?

Give my debits cards to a friend who knows my credit history, and no matter how bleak it gets, refuse to pay to research my own tartan.

What would be your top three items every performer must take to the fringe?

3 pairs of shoes – so when one is drying the other can be worn, and one as a spare

An airhorn for competing with the fireworks

And a spare toilet – you’re often living in a house with one lavatory and 10 performers living in it (And their boyfriends/ Girlfriends) so toilets are at a premium.

what’s the secret to successful flyering?

Warm and friendly eye contact – and a flyer that confuses people so much they HAVE to google the show just to answer the mystery of what they’ve just been handed.

If people want to find out more about you where can they follow you on social media?

On Instagram and Youtube – I put up clips from my MC-ing and my interviews every single day

And Finally in three words – Why should people come and see the show?

It’s Your Destiny
