Hello! Tell us about yourself.

Hi! I’m Paul McGill—director & choreographer of Midnight at the Palace. I work across theater, film, dance, circus, and immersive theater. I’m especially drawn to stories that challenge and grow audiences, often infused with joy. I currently live in New York. Interesting fact about me? I love cows and raw milk, specifically A2A2.

Tell us all about your show!

Midnight at the Palace is a counterculture musical rebellion inspired by the uproarious rise and spectacular fall of the Cockettes—a gender-bending drag commune/theatre troupe from early 1970s San Francisco. Come for the chaos, stay for the humanity. Our show toggles between the tension of upholding artistic integrity and the lure of commercial success. It’s messy joy with a big, juicy, beating heart.

What other acts are you looking forward to seeing at the Fringe?

I’m a big fan of good circus and late night variety when it comes to the Fringe. Anything without pretense, but with true grit and naughty laughter. Shows that are awe-inspired as well.

Have you done the Fringe before? What are your key pieces of advice?

In 2019, I choreographed a circus show called Filament; time of our lives on that one. My advice would be to pace oneself. Too much of a good thing can numb the senses.

If this is your first time, what are you looking forward to?

It’s my first time in a while at least, so I’m looking forward to reconnecting with the Fringe community and seeing what is coming out of the hearts and minds of my fellow freaks!

Talk us through your daily routine for a day at the Fringe.

No two days are the same, but every day involves Mary’s Milk Bar.

Ok, where is your favourite place to eat at the Fringe?

Mary’s Milk Bar

Best thing about performing at the Fringe?

The authenticity and a celebration of being fully alive.

Hardest part about performing at the Fringe?

Boundaries. There’s something incredible to do at every hour of the day. Priorities are key. And if possible, having a room to oneself at the end of the day.

Do you bring anything special from home to make it feel more special while you’re away?

I always travel with quality Japanese incense and some yummy earphones. I need my alone time to recharge so that’s how I can find solace while sharing quarters.

Best hacks to save money while at the Fringe?

Split the fries. Share the glitter.

Top three items every performer must take to the Fringe?

Electrolytes.

Kushy shoes.

An open mind.

What’s the secret to successful flyering?

Oh just you wait to see those Cockette’s flyering… A sight not to be missed.

If people want to find out more about you, where can they follow?

Follow me on IG at @paul.mcgill

And finally, in three words—why should people come and see the show?

Voices. Chaos. Rebellion.
