Today’s Featured Artist – INTERVIEW – Adult Swim

Tell us about:

Your favourite lyric in a song:

‘she is love, life and misery’ I just love how it flows, the paradox and the sarcasm in it.

Your favourite song that you have created that is an album track:

It’s a new one that’s called ‘hold me close before you go’ I won’t spoil the surprise but I love it, has a cool 80’s vibe to it. If you’re catching us before the tour in October, you might get a sneak peak.

Your favourite song to play live:

That’s a hard one. I love playing Borderline but it has to be Kiss me like you miss her. Selfishly, the bass in that song particularly on the verses is so fun to play, I absolutely love how it sounds with the drums as well.

The song that was the longest to write and why?

Dancing don’t feel right had the most back-and-forth – it started off as a love/loss song but we wanted it to stand out in its own world, which led us to this almost footloose give in into temptation moniker. It was really fun to record, starting in the studio but then going to our producer Ollie’s bedroom to get the vocals finalised.

Your most emotional track:

It’s a new one on the album that’s called ‘The River’, again I don’t want to give much away but it’s an acoustic song, it was very very emotional when we were recording it.

Dream collaboration:

Strangely enough myself and Dave were talking about this a few days ago. I’d love to have Robert Smith from ‘The Cure’, I love how beautifully haunting his voice is. That would be my first choice, if not him then I’d love Halsey on a track, she’s got such an incredibly unique voice.

Describe the feeling you get when you walk on stage to do a show:

There’s genuinely nothing like it, the adrenaline, anxiety, expectation and pure happiness it’s such an incredible feeling. The only way I can describe it is just being alive and fuelled by pure human emotion.

The hardest track to play live:

It’s an older one called ‘control’ the bass riff is so dominant so it has to be perfect, I downstroke when I play so my arm goes dead about 20 seconds in. That said it’s really fun to play too and always gets a great reaction.

Essential items you always take on tour with you?

Firstly, my bass. Then it has some to be ear plugs for the times you’re sharing a room. Flip flops because you never know where you’re going to get a shower, Our manager Jade who not only has to sort us out but keeps it all running smoothly and finally a care package from Nath/Ollie’s mum, which has the best selection of crisps you’ve ever seen.

Describe your fans in three words:

Luv’s, loyal and supportive

A song by an artist or band you wish you had written:

Train in vain by The Clash. It’s one of my favourite songs of all time written by one of the best bands of all time. It’s also used brilliantly in 500 days of summer during the drunk karaoke scene.

What we can look forward to from your band this year:

It’s a big year for us, we have our debut album out in October along with our biggest tour yet. Plus a few more surprises to announce along the way.
