Today’s Featured Liverpool Improv Festival Act – INTERVIEW – Far and the Rest of the Family

All this month we are talking to acts that are performing at the Liverpool Improv Festival which takes place between Thursday the 24th – Sunday the 27th of April 2025. Today we speak to Far and the Rest of the Family.

Tell us about:

Your latest improv show for Liverpool Improv Festival?

We’re bringing our newly made format «Directors Commentary», where we play scenes from a made up-movie on the spot. Through games and short scenes, we’ll see the depths of the characters and the storyline worthy of an Oscar! …or maybe not. It is improvised, so who knows what we’ll come up with. If this wasn’t your favourite movie already, you sure want to see it again afterwards.

Your favourite suggestion you have been given?

“Waiting for Einstein” as a movie title. Which turned out to be stories of friendship, betrayal and using stuffed animals as hats in Paris.

Your favourite venue to perform at:

Home is where the heart is! We have been enjoying playing at the stage of Chateau Neuf, provided by our home-community Impro Neuf. Still, it is always an extra trill to explore a new venue, and not to mention the new improv friends playing abroad can bring! We’ve gathered friends in Trondheim, Uppsala and Gothenburg and can’t wait to meet the wonderful people at Unity Theatre in Liverpool!

Improv hero:

Our moms! They don’t do improv, but they probably had a lot of juggeling and improvising along the way of raising us

Dream venue to play at:

Wherever there is some space on the floor and friends come in the door.

Describe the feeling you get when you walk on stage to do a show:

Oh, the thrill! The excitement and joy of meeting a new audience and looking forward to having a really good time amongst friends.

The hardest improv suggestion to perform and why:

Nothing is too hard! Improv is about adapting and play with whatever you have. Even a «hard» suggestion will trigger some connections and impulses – and then you are already improvising. (But please do not suggest Worcestershiresauce. Unless you want a bunch of Norwegians trying to pronounce it… Then go for whatever sauce you like!)

Essential items you always take with you to a show?

For a while we brought some glasses from the 80s for our role as the director. It only had glass in one of the eyes, so some of us became a bit dizzy by using them. At the end, we had to realize there is a difference between the good-vibes-fun-show-dizziness and the one from not actually seeing what´s going on on stage! Now we bring a scarf.

Describe your fans in three words:

Enthusiastic, engaged, family-related (no, just kidding. But good friends sometimes feels like family, right?)

What we can look forward to from you this year:

A special show like no other – where improv brings back the memories from your (new) favourite movie.
