Movie Memories – This Week – Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls

Films are something that we all look towards for escapism – the action, the humour, the romance, the animation. Sometimes these can hold so much more meaning then just an image on a screen and create narratives and memories in our own lives. Welcome to the sister article to Music Memories where we take a look at some of these personal stories attached to films.

Film: Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls
Original Release Date: 1995

I have always been a huge Jim Carrey fan, growing up in the nineties I think it’s safe to say I loved him. I was always wanting to see his films and I would still say now that The Mask and The Truman Show are two of my all time favourite films. I loved his physical comedy and his ability to always make me laugh.

I was super excited when Ace Ventura two came out when I was a kid and saw it in the cinema. I adored it so much that I asked to go and see it again for my birthday with my friends. I literally begged as I really loved his films.

Apparently, I got really grumpy because I was disappointed that the film was the same storyline and plot that I had already seem – that is how much I loved Jim Carrey, I always wanted new content and being under ten I think I weirdly thought the film would change story!

Facts about Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls

  • When driving to the consulate for the first time, Jim Carrey forgot his lines, so instead started singing the theme from the movie Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. Both actors stayed in character and the director loved it so they kept it in.
  • According to Simon Callow, Jim Carrey didn’t really want to make the film, which made on-set experiences awkward.
  • Jim Carrey said that after doing this movie he realized he could not spend his entire life doing Ace Ventura movies. Writer/director Steve Oedekerk felt the same way, and also moved onto other projects.
  • Most of the stuffed animal heads and trophies in Cadby’s study are fake, since director Steve Oedekerk didn’t condone endangered animals to be killed for sport.
