There is a social media game going around at the moment which as soon as I saw it I was like – I want to play this as a warm up game for improv. I may of done but I am not 100% sure.
In the social media videos – people do a very quick movement with their faces, arms and mouth and then someone else will make a noise in which they think that person is saying or doing. It is great and I think it is a super fun thing to bring to improv.
I am not sure how this game originated but I think it will work so well in a rehearsal or stage environment. It would be used to get you warmed up and have a laugh at the same time. You could make a bug circle and then someone could stand in the middle and make a movement. You could have a rule that the person to the left of the person in the middle makes the noise. Once they have chosen a noise the circle immediately imitates the movement and the noise all together.
There are so many ways that this could be used in a show environment. The one that comes to mind is you get someone on the stage to do the movement then nominate different members of the audience to make the noise. It is more then likely the audience member will be nervous so when the player repeats the noise themselves they should do it ten times bigger.
It is slightly different to the one that is social media game but you have to sometimes slightly adapt things for it to work on stage.
