Sunday Book Club: A Little Princess, Frances Hodgson Burnett

Every Sunday we are taking a look at the world of books. I read a lot and always want to share my opinions on what I read, so I thought it would be fun to write reviews. Today we are looking at a classic book about a little princess.

A Little Princess (1905)

Frances Hodgson Burnett

Synopsis

When Sara Crewe’s beloved father dies, her fortunes at strict Miss Minchin’s boarding school are reversed. Once, she had the finest toys and treasures – now, she is orphaned and penniless, and is forced to become a servant. But as Sara knows, being a princess has nothing to do with being rich. And as she will learn, there is nothing that bravery, imagination, kindness and friendship, cannot overcome.

A beautiful classic that has captured the hearts of generations.

Positive Points

This is a really engaging fun story and the thing that is great about it is that the narrative reels you in straight away. The characters are detailed and the descriptions really paint a picture for you in your head that it is really easy to escape into it.

Negative Points

The book feels like it ends a bit quickly – it builds up a really good story and then just sort of ends.

Overall Review

This book still stands up as a really good read, it has been made into many different versions for television and film. The story is very detailed and it is one that I thoroughly enjoyed reading even as an adult.
