Christmas Shows – INTERVIEW – Spontaneous Wrecksmas, Prohibition Bar, Newcastle-Upon-Tyne

The festive period is here and there are so many shows that are available for audiences to go and watch! Over the next few weeks, we will be talking to lots of different shows and performers about what they have in store for this time of year! Today we speak to Newcastle Improv based team Spontaneous Wrecks about their Christmas show which is happening on the 12th November at 7:30pm at the Prohibition Bar to find out what festive fun they have in store.

Hello tell us a little bit about yourself!

We are Spontaneous Wrecks, an improv comedy group from Newcastle. We just celebrated our 10th birthday and we’re back on 12th December for our annual Christmas show!

What is the show that you are bringing to the stage in this Festive season?

Spontaneous Wrecksmas begins with the style of show we perform at the Edinburgh Fringe – short-form improv games and scenes full of jokes and audience suggestions. The second half then takes the audience back to Charles Dickens’ England for an improvised retelling of ‘A Christmas Carol’!

Tell us all about the character that you play?

We are different characters in every scene, and of course it’s all made up so we don’t know yet! We can probably say that Dan will be our Dickens for the night, and that Casey gives an excellent Scrooge…

Will there be a bit of festivity in your show?

There will be SO MUCH FESTIVITY IN OUR SHOW.

What are your favourite things about the festive season and why?

That’s actually one of the suggestions we ask our audience at the start of ‘A Christmas Carol’! Past answers have varied from shiny baubles to Greggs festive bakes…

This time of year the venues tend to be a bit busier as well – do you find that the audience changes at all?

We definitely get a lot more Christmas themed suggestions – and people are a bit happier to have a singalong – we’ll have improvised music throughout the show!

What advice would you give for people performing around the festive season?

Never underestimate the power of a Christmas jumper!

What is the best thing about a night at your show for the audience?

You’ll have fun watching us be idiots, and leave happy and ready for the festive season to begin.

If people want to find out more about you where can they follow you on social media?

Yes, we’re on Facebook and Instagram as @spontaneouswrecks . We have been on Twitter as well but let’s not talk about that right now

And Finally in three words – Why should people come and see the show?

Merry. Improvised. Spectacular!
