Tell us about
Your new single, “FUN.”
“FUN” is one of the few songs I’ve ever written in the third person. It’s about a time when I felt disconnected from myself—I was behaving in a way that was so far from my core values that I didn’t even realize it until I looked back after.
What’s your favourite lyric/line in this song?
“She’s waiting for the train, it’s a quarter to 2. Pretend it’s a Mercedes in her Prada shoes”
What’s your favourite song that you have created so far?
Of my released songs, “y u?” is one of my favourites. But I also love this unreleased song that I’m releasing in December— it’s called “tell em.”
What’s your favourite song to play live?
“ur face.” I usually play the vocal chops live, which is really fun!
Which song took you the longest to write and why do you think it did?
“y u?” definitely took the longest. I love that song so much and I didn’t want to rush the process. I ended up going through six different versions of the song before I felt like it was right.
What do you think is your most emotional track?
I don’t tend to create a lot of emotional music, but if I had to pick I’d say “ruin my lyf.”
Who would be your dream collaboration?
Lady Gaga, Elton John, or Erykah Badu.
Can you describe what it feels like when you walk on stage to perform?
Like I’ve taken way too many drugs… uppers, specifically!
Which essential items do you always take on tour?
Hairbrush, headphones, laptop, and mic.
How would you describe your fans in three words?
Esoteric, unserious, and fierce.
Is there a song by another artist or band you wish you had created?
“Englishman in New York” by Sting or “On & On” by Erykah Badu.
What else can we look forward to from you in the last few months of 2024?
I’m releasing a new song every month, so you’ll be hearing plenty of new music from me pretty regularly. I’ll also be traveling a lot for performances, so hopefully I’ll be in a city near you playing my music soon!
