Tell us about:
Your latest single you have released:
“Body Bag” is about feeling young yet already too old, and chasing something I’m not sure I’ll ever catch. It’s about seeking comfort in all the wrong places, and making life-changing mistakes every other Friday night. It’s a song about escapism, being in your early twenties, and missing the person you used to be. It’s volatile, and emotional, and a song you want to dance, all at the same time.
Your favourite lyric in this song:
I think my favourite lyric is “they promised love, we got a war” because it feels so true. Growing up, I always thought being in my twenties and going out would be so glamorous and romantic. Now that I’m in it, it all feels like some great battle.
Your favourite song that you have created:
Oh this is hard, I honestly can’t say that I have a favorite just because every song I write is so important to different aspects of my life. I definitely think some of my favorite songs I’ve written are the one’s about to come out, which I’m very excited about. I will say “St. George” and “This House” from my EP, ‘A Brief Epic,’ will always hold a very special place in my heart, from both a personal and songwriting perspective.
Your favourite song to play live:
As of late it’s been “Body Bag!” The drop makes it so much fun to play live.
The song that was the longest to write and why?
Some of my songs have technically taken weeks or months to write. I write lyrics I think of in my notes on my phone but it can sometimes take months until I feel like I’ve found the right track or the right session to finish it. I have this song called “Jagged Stars” that I created with some very talented producer friends of mine.
We all live in different parts of the world though and went back and forth with revisions for a few months, so that’s definitely the song that took the longest to complete.
Your most emotional track:
This is hard because I’m always so emotional when writing! I think “This House” or “Used by You” are definitely two of the most gut-wrenching songs of mine.
Dream collaboration:
Noah Kahan, Taylor Swift, Twenty One Pilots, and The 1975 all would be a dream to collaborate with.
Describe the feeling you get when you walk on stage to do a show:
Walking onto stage always feels like the first breath when you breakthrough the surface after being underwater for a long time. It’s exhilarating and freeing and where I feel the most like me. I spend my life waiting for the next moment I get to step on stage. I’m perpetually chasing that feeling.
The hardest track to play live:
“Used by You” is definitely the hardest for me to sing live, just because it’s in this weird mix of singing and screaming. There are a lot of moments where the music cuts out and it’s literally just me making noise on stage which can be nerve-racking at times!
Essential items you always take on tour with you?
My essential survival tools on tour are headphones, Bai Coconut water, and a really soft blanket.
Describe your fans in three words:
Incredible, beautiful, and supportive.
A song by another artist or band you wish you had written:
I’ll forever wish I’d written “False Confidence” by Noah Kahan.
What we can look forward to from your band this year:
I’m releasing a lot more music this year, which I am so excited about! “Body Bag” is the first single from a project I’ve been working on for the past year. I cannot wait for you all to hear it!
