Is it a cake, is it a biscuit? Well there is one way to find out, go and see this musical. Jaffa Cake the musical is an entertaining, engaging and exciting spectacular that you will want to see at the Fringe this year.
It is very difficult to bring a court case to life in the form of song and dance to entertain the masses but the team of Gigglemug have done just that and have made it an hour of non stop enjoyment and very catchy songs. The team on stage may be small but their presence is bold.
There are some astonishing singers amongst the team and the song which is about a Tax man brings the house down.
An additional praise has to go to Alex Prescot, acting and playing the soundtrack to the whole musical on a keyboard throughout the show is a very difficult thing to do but he does it with such ease. He isn’t just the pianist he is also a variety of actors which is so clever and also fascinating to watch, at one point he even plays the keyboard whilst hiding on the floor – that’s the level of commitment we are talking about. Also at such ease at times Katie Pritchard seamlessly takes over the playing so that Alex can have his time to dance and take centre stage.
This is a phenomenal piece of theatre and it may be a random topic for a musical but it weirdly works amazingly well.
