How did you come up with the name of your show that your taking to the Camden fringe?
I don’t relate to the classic “Eat. Sleep. Rave. Repeat” motto so I wanted to spice it up to something that I felt rang true to me: being constantly in thought and ruminating. I’ve always found clubs and raves overwhelming, they remind me of how my thoughts feel when I’m overthinking: loud, obnoxious and have absolutely zero chill.
Tell us a little bit about your style of show?
The style is quite chaotic in the sense it is very DIY influenced. I take a lot of the mess in my own life and put it on stage (quite literally). Combine club life and terrible powerpoint presentations and you’ve got Eat. Sleep. Ruminate. Repeat.
What other acts are you looking forward to seeing at the fringe?
I am excited to see fellow Hen and Chickens performances How You Died by Dark Skies Ensemble and Attention Span by Brave Mirror Productions!
What advice would you give to others who want to perform at Camden Fringe next year?
Don’t believe you are not ready, there is no time like right now and if you have always wanted to put on a show, don’t let your thoughts give you 100 reasons not to (because they will). I have wanted to put on my show for 3 years and always pushed it back because “it wasn’t the right time” but if you don’t just go for it, those potential avenues of opportunity will never be discovered.
What is the best thing about performing at the Camden fringe?
I love that I get the opportunity to connect with my local community and find like minded overthinkers that I can laugh and cry with.
London can be an expensive place to perform in – what key advice would you give to performers that is a sort of life hack?
Network and talk to fellow creatives who are also starting out- chances are they are looking for opportunities to promote themselves too, it helps to lighten the load of creating a show all by yourself and you meet crazy talented people along the way.
What are your three favourite things about Camden?
The fact I can hop on a boat with a dog and guitar player at any given moment. I also, love that everyone is free to express themselves through their clothes, art, it’s like a camden fashion show and I love it. And I can’t forget the orange juice.
Who would be your ultimate dream audience member?
Someone who walks away feeling a little lighter, knowing that others also struggle with rumination and can have ridiculous thoughts that can spiral out of control.
The iconic image of the Camden Fringe is the Pigeon – if you could call this years pigeon a name to represent its style what would it be and why?
Camden Fringe’s pigeon is giving me a strong sense it’s called Reginald Birdster the 3rd.
They know they are a bit rough around the edges but Reginald Birdster the 3rd picks themselves up and shows us they are a proper distinguished bird with not just layers of London dirt but layers of complex emotion, heart and feeling. Much like many of the shows this year.
If people want to find out more about you where can they follow you on social media?
You can follow me on @jayliewaylingactress on Instagram, I also like to post opportunities for creatives whenever I find them!
And Finally in three words – Why should people come and see the show?
Let’s overthink together.
