Hello! Tell us about yourself?
I am a writer and actor based in Brooklyn, NY. I write plays, poems, and screenplays. The last acting job I had before the Covid lockdown was the world premiere of the late Mark Medoff’s play Time and Chance, in which I had the privilege of workshopping the script he’d left behind with some of his family members before we debuted the show in Las Cruces, New Mexico.
During Covid times I was singularly focused on #SonnetCoronaProject, a collaborative project I created in which for 328 consecutive days during the pandemic I wrote a sonnet a day until a Covid vaccine became available to the general public in New York, each piece interpreted and performed by a different actor.
It reminded me on a cellular level how vital it is to be in community with fellow artists, and I look forward to continuing that vibe this summer! Since then I’ve been writing new plays, performing Shakespeare, and now prepping for the Fringe!
Tell us all about your show!
Do This One Thing for Me is an autobiographical solo show about my relationship with my father, who was a Holocaust survivor from Greece. It is the most personal piece I’ve ever written and explores intergenerational dynamics, the responsibilities and challenges of survivors’ descendants going forward, and the bond between father and daughter. And with good doses of humor too!
This is our first time taking the show out of the country and I am thrilled to be able to bring it to Edinburgh after last performing it in 2018 at the NY Fringe.
How did you come up with the name of your show that your taking to the fringe?
One of my classmates in a writing workshop in which I was developing this piece suggested it after I’d presented excerpts. I heard it and thought yes, this is it! It’s thematically apt on multiple levels.
What other acts are you looking forward to seeing at the fringe?
So many NYC theater friends are taking their shows to the Fringe this year! Some of the many on my to-see list are Bill Schaumberg’s Three Chickens Confront Existence, Kimberly Prentice’s Unseen, Lorrel Manning’s Lost . . . and Found, and Dorothy James & Andy Manjuck’s Bill’s 44th.
What is the best way to enjoy yourself at the fringe?
Pace yourself! There is so much to see and do, give yourself breaks when you need them so you can recharge for more!
Ok, where is your favourite place to eat at the Fringe?
Lots of great food trucks at Assembly George Square Gardens!
Top tips for travelling around the Fringe and getting to shows on time?
Use the Fringe app to keep track of your itinerary!
Batch shows/showtimes according to location so you don’t have too much travel time in between.
What would be your top three items every performer must take to the fringe?
Speaking only from the experience of an Edinburgh visitor and Fringe spectator, I would say:
A rain jacket
Emergen-C
Postcards/flyers
