Hello! Tell us about yourself?
I’m Ian Stone, I’m a writer, broadcaster, podcaster and stand up comedian. In a past life, I climbed the Matterhorn (the difficult side) and I hold the world record for longest time doing a handstand (twenty two and a half hours – I could’ve gone longer but I needed the loo and i didn’t want to pee all over myself)
Tell us all about your show!
Ian Stone is Keeping it Together is a show about the things we can all do to keep it together. It’s really about the importance of maintenance and doing the admin. But with jokes.
How did you come up with the name of your show that you’re taking to the fringe?
Life is a struggle. I was looking for a way to make it funny. I said to my missus ‘how about I call the show Ian Stone is Keeping it Together’. And instead of looking at me like I’d just said something pathetic, she thought for a moment and said ‘yeah, sounds good’.
What other acts are you looking forward to seeing at the fringe?
Anything with mime or interpretive dance. I’m a sucker for that s***
Have you done the fringe before? What are the key pieces of advice you have been given or would give to new groups or people performing at the fringe.
This will be my ninety fifth fringe. I first came to Edinburgh in 1868. I rode the entire way from London on a penny farthing. I was wearing a top hat and smoking a pipe. Audiences were patchy although it picked up in the last week as people returned from the Crimea.
Talk us through your daily routine for a day at the Fringe
Get up at 6. A two hour workout, a breakfast of fruit and a protein shake, Pilates, vigorous sex, a nap, a lunch of warm water, do the show, a quick half marathon and in bed by 8-30
What is the best way to enjoy yourself at the fringe?
As many mime and interpretive dance shows as you can fit in
Ok, where is your favourite place to eat at the Fringe?
I bring all my own food to Scotland. One can’t be too careful.
Best thing about performing at the fringe?
The reviewers. I can’t begin to describe the joy they’ve brought me over the years
Top tips for travelling around the Fringe and getting to shows on time?
A watch and some knowledge of the layout of the city
What would be your top three items every performer must take to the fringe?
Trousers, shoes and socks. Never go anywhere without them
What’s the secret to successful flyering?
Both caring and not caring
If people want to find out more about you where can they follow you on social media?
@ianstonecomedy on Instagram and Tik Tok
And Finally in three words – Why should people come and see the show?
God only knows
