Hello! Tell us about yourself?
The Barrow Group is a US-based non-profit theatre company and training center that has been operating for 38 years. Lee is the co-artistic director. Lorrel and Christine are long-standing members of this artistic community. Our mission is to combine spontaneous acting with well-crafted stories that address social, spiritual, and political issues, enriching our community with a greater understanding of ourselves, others, and the world around us. Also—we like to have fun and PLAY!
Tell us all about your show!
On the heels of a major childhood event, K. Lorrel Manning’s LOST… FOUND takes you on a soul-searching, delightfully human roller-coaster ride through music, unlikely heroes and the Artist formerly known as Prince. Join us to laugh, cry and revisit the music of our past!
How did you come up with the name of your show that you’re taking to the fringe?
Lorrel Manning has been searching to find light and clarity … he felt lost. Through the development and performance of this piece, he is the journey to being found.
What other acts are you looking forward to seeing at the fringe?
Everything! But this year, several artists from The Barrow Group will be performing in Edinburgh including Jane Elias’ “Do This One Thing For Me”. After last year, we are looking forward to Julia Masli, The Umbilical Brothers, Ed Burns. New plays and presentations by the Assembly and others.
Have you done the fringe before? What are the key pieces of advice you have been given or would give to new groups or people performing at the fringe. And if you haven’t, how are you gearing up for it?
Yes, last year we presented 17 MINUTES by Scott Organ. Our advice: Be supportive—to as many artists as you can. Have conversations with artists– especially when they are passing out their flyers. Dive into the rich history of this beautiful city–– the museums, the Grey Friars Cemetery and the Edinburgh Castle. Listen to the music on the street–– allow it to feed your soul. Eat a meat pie at the food court.
Talk us through your daily routine for a day at the Fringe
Coffee and croissant. Walk to the royal mile. Do your show (ours is at 13:30). Meat pie at the food court. Pass your flyers out for the next day’s show. Have a beer at a pub while look at programme and choose what shows you will see for the rest of the day. Grab a late night snack. Fall asleep dreaming of what tomorrow will bring.
