How did you come up with the name of your show that you’re taking to the Camden fringe?

My show is a stand-up show about growing up with a disabled sibling, and I happened to discover on TikTok there’s a word for people like me: ‘glass child’. Mind you, I don’t think I am really a ‘glass child’ in the strictest sense. I’ll explain more in the show. I’m performing Glass Child at the Camden Fringe first, then taking it up to the Edinburgh Fringe at the end of August.

Tell us a little bit about your style of show?

Storytelling and quirky observations. It’s autobiographical and a bit nostalgic, too, if you’re a 90s-00s kid.

What other acts are you looking forward to seeing at the fringe?

Andrew Coleman is bringing his first show to the Camden Fringe. I’ve been seeing him develop material at my open mic night Comedy Bandits and I’m excited to see how it all comes together.

What advice would you give to others who want to perform at Camden Fringe next year?

Do it! It’s so much fun. I did it for the first time in 2022 and had a blast. If you’re new to comedy, pair up with a friend for a split show. Make sure to leave flyers at your venue – and posters too!

What is the best thing about performing at the Camden Fringe?

It’s nice to be part of a local festival in London. It’s so much easier for my friends to come and see me perform. It’s also much less expensive than other festivals (cough Edinburgh Fringe cough).

London can be an expensive place to perform in – what key advice would you give to performers that is a sort of life hack?

Save your comedy earnings (from bucket speeches, paid gigs, etc) and start a little comedy pot separate from your other earnings. Use that money to pay for anything comedy-related. Pretty soon, comedy will start paying for itself!

What are your three favourite things about Camden?

The people, the music/comedy scene, also Primrose Hill.

Who would be your ultimate dream audience member?

Mike Birbiglia. (Followed by him deciding to mentor me and take me on tour as his opening act. It could happen!)

The iconic image of the Camden Fringe is the Pigeon – if you could call this years pigeon a name to represent its style what would it be and why?

Fringeon. Which is a portmanteau of ‘Fringe’ and ‘Pigeon’. Either that, or Mr. Beaksy.

If people want to find out more about you where can they follow you on social media?

I’m on Instagram as @carolinemcevoycomedy and TikTok as @carolinemcevoy

And Finally in three words – Why should people come and see the show?

It’s a laugh!
