Films are something that we all look towards for escapism – the action, the humour, the romance, the animation. Sometimes these can hold so much more meaning then just an image on a screen and create narratives and memories in our own lives. Welcome to the sister article to Music Memories where we take a look at some of these personal stories attached to films.
Film: Despicable Me
Original Release Date: 2010
I had heard about Despicable Me years before it was released. I remember watching the teaser trailer and immediately wanting to watch it. I had no idea what it was about but I remember the trailer was just Gru stepping into the picture but I knew that I wanted to see it and that imagery stuck with me.
Even though I was desperate to see it, it was ages before I actually did because I was so bad at going to the cinema. The first time I watched it brought back memories of the first time I saw Toy Story. I instantly loved it and became a huge fan of the minions.
I loved how unique and different they were and also how funny they were. It has been proved by characters like Mr Bean that gibberish or silence is so popular internationally and that it why they are so great. Also I love the fact that ever so often there is a bit of French thrown into the conversation.
The film was the start of me really loving Despicable Me and it is one of my favourite animated films. If you are having a rough day, put them on and they will make you laugh out loud.
Facts About Despicable Me

- The bedtime story “Sleepy Kittens” was made into a tie-in board book that can be purchased, although it does not include the pull out brush that was featured in this movie
- To make Elsie Fisher laugh during recordings, her dad would sometimes sneak up behind her and tickle her.
