Hello! Tell us about yourself?

I’m a comedian, entrepreneur, and adventurer. I have built a unique career surrounding my love of performing comedy and building that into opportunities for business and travel alike. I started my comedy career back in 2006 at Second City Chicago, have launched a few production companies, written, produced and acted for TV and film for a decade in LA, and continue to tour internationally with my latest material. I shot my first comedy special in 2019 on my canceled wedding day called “I Was Supposed to Get Married Today,” and launched my company mybreakupregistry.com in the pandemic while awaiting my special to drop on Amazon Prime.

My first special was really close to my heart, and I got to include my mom, grandma, and best friend in it and recreate the wedding experience for myself. My grandma is a huge part of my comedy, and I’ve co-created a series about our relationship that I’ll be shopping again soon. My company mybreakupregistry.com is currently preparing it’s relaunch with new design, and I look forward to continuing to infuse my art with my life, and my company with my art!

Tell us all about your show!

“The Right Amount of Wrong” picks up where my last special left off, and takes the audience on a journey of what’s been happening in my life since my world literally flipped upside down. I talk about going through my 9-year breakup and ending of engagement, and some of the backlash to follow… getting into a new relationship, dealing with my own life, issues, healing, family, and just tell a ton of relatable stories from my perspective in joke format.

I love to feel like the audience and I are friends while I’m on stage, and I present everything to feel like a conversation that they get to be a part of. I’m very very excited to share with festival attendees what I’ve been working on these past few years while touring!

How did you come up with the name of your show that your taking to the fringe?

The name was the hardest part… I cover a LOT of bases in this new hour, and I wanted a title that personified me both as a hero and villain in my own story. My material is edgy, dirty at times, but still has an air of class regardless of the subject matter that doesn’t seem to bother even the most conservative audiences. I love titles that say a lot in as few words as possible, and this show name felt like it would spark just the right amount of curiosity where anyone’s questions will be answered if they attend. There is a right amount of wrong, and I think I’ve straddled that line my whole career.

What other acts are you looking forward to seeing at the fringe?

I absolutely love any and all types of performance, and am honestly a fantastic audience member as I lean into anyone’s sense of humour. I will go to as many other shows as possible, but I’m excited to see the comedies “All-Stars Burlesque,” which is also playing at my venue Just The Tonic. I want to check out “Best of So You Think You’re Funny,” “Transatlantic middle-aged Jewish atheist divorcee” (that title tells such a story!), “Thots and Prayers,” “Miss Fortunate,” “BUSHPIG,” and Scottish performer Connor Burns who’s also at Just The Tonic. I also want to see a ton of dance, physical theatre, circus and magic shows because I love seeing multi-talented performers live.

Have you done the fringe before? What are the key pieces of advice you have been given or would give to new groups or people performing at the fringe.

This is actually my EdFringe debut! I was originally supposed to put my show up in 2020 called “Diary of a Bad Fiance,” which I started writing when my engagement started to fall apart. Obviously 2020 there was no fest, and I was actively going through the breakup, so in hindsight that timing and material would have been really hard to pull off. As far as key advice, save money in advance, plan far ahead, and make sure to hire the best teams possible to make your entry in to the Fringe as smooth as possible!

Talk us through your daily routine for a day at the Fringe

I am blessed to have an afternoon time slot, so I will likely get up in the morning and workout, do any writing/updates/material review, and then trek out for the day. I plan to be out every day after my show to see as many shows as I can. I love to adventure, so I also want to see as much of the city as possible and explore a bit – meeting people and having random travel interactions and conversations is such an inspiration for my writing. I also love a good pub, so I’m always down to venture out for an afternoon beer with cool audience members and other performers.

What is the best way to enjoy yourself at the fringe?

I honestly just plan to lean into it with open arms. I never know who I’m going to meet, and I love meeting new people. I want to have fun on stage – which is the freest, most present part of my day – and go see as many shows and connect with as many people as possible. I try not to start any day with heavy expectations, so I’ll just lean into the adventure of it all and go with what feels right each day!

Ok, where is your favourite place to eat at the Fringe?

I have no idea yet! Please please send suggestions. I have zero dietary restrictions and will try literally anything.

Best thing about performing at the fringe?

I’m just excited to put my art up how I want. The anticipation of it makes me feel so free, and I want to see as many other artists as I can who feel the same way. There is nothing like a festival of this nature…

Top tips for travelling around the Fringe and getting to shows on time?

For me, it was finding housing as close to my venue as possible. I like to walk if possible, but sounds like I may need to learn the transit system real quick upon arrival.

What would be your top three items every performer must take to the fringe?

Good walking shoe, advil, and a “let’s have a good time” attitude.

What’s the secret to successful flyering?

I hired someone to do this, so hopefully that’s the secret haha.

If people want to find out more about you where can they follow you on social media?

Instagram is my best outlet – www.instagram.com/nphcomedy … I also use facebook, www.facebook.com/natashapearlhansen and I’m on other platforms as @nphcomedy!

And Finally in three words – Why should people come and see the show?

I really am so f***ing fun on stage. I have the most fun up there and you’ll leave feeling like we are best of buds. I love and appreciate my audiences, and that energy resonates. Let’s party guys! This is comedy – we all deserve to laugh out life’s bull**** together.
