Hello! Tell us about yourself?

I’m a comedian based in Edinburgh. I’ve been performing stand up for 8 years and also know for sketches that I release online.

Tell us all about your show!

It’s a show about trying to move on after your route has been diverted. It’s a positive, funny look at life when it’s going its most wrong.

How did you come up with the name of your show that your taking to the fringe?

The word ‘lost’ seemed to keep cropping up in all the material I was writing but for different reasons. I also wanted to have a ending to my show that didn’t annoy people as much as the television show of the same did.

What other acts are you looking forward to seeing at the fringe?

I haven’t had a good look through the fringe book yet but I always like to catch my mate Connor Burns, he’s another local lad and we both started in this silly old business at the same time.

Have you done the fringe before? What are the key pieces of advice you have been given or would give to new groups or people performing at the fringe.

I’ve done it for quite a while now. I think weirdly the only advice I could ever give is to just register the show and the work hard at it. Advice seems quite useless Fringe wise as you can never predict what will happen. Try to eat at least one vegetable for the entire month maybe.

Talk us through your daily routine for a day at the Fringe

I don’t have a routine as each day can be so wildly different. I always know what time my show is but a part from that it’s the only thing I make sure to do. I like the randomness of each day.

What is the best way to enjoy yourself at the fringe?

Try new things. Enjoy the city. Meet new people.

Ok, where is your favourite place to eat at the Fringe?

I love a place called ‘Let me eat’ on Grassmarket. It’s a great place if you want to eat a little healthier and the coffee is great.

Best thing about performing at the fringe?

Getting to do it every day. It’s like a big month long creative gym session.

Top tips for travelling around the Fringe and getting to shows on time?

Walk everywhere. Edinburgh is great as it seems like everything is always a 15 minute walk away.

What would be your top three items every performer must take to the fringe?

New shoes that you know will be ruined by the end. A rain coat. Sunglasses.

what’s the secret to successful flyering?

Pay someone better to do it.

If people want to find out more about you where can they follow you on social media?

If you types in Joe McTernan on any of the platforms, you’ll find me.

And Finally in three words – Why should people come and see the show?

It may make you feel less concerned about feeling lost in life.
