Hello! Tell us about yourself?
I’m a comedian from Bristol and am bringing my debut stand-up hour to Pleasance Courtyard this year. I’m 42 with 2 kids so am pretty old to be a debutante but I actually think it’s quite chic. I’m also a writer and do quite a bit on TikTok.
Tell us all about your show!
Free Mason is about how I came out as a lesbian during the pandemic, while married to a man. Which was awkward to be honest. It also covers stuff about parenting and mental health and is pretty surreal in places.
How did you come up with the name of your show that your taking to the fringe?
Beware of falling Masonry was also a contender.
What other acts are you looking forward to seeing at the fringe?
Harriet Dyer, Katie Norris, Derek Mitchell, Sarah Roberts
Have you done the fringe before? What are the key pieces of advice you have been given or would give to new groups or people performing at the fringe.
11 years ago I brought an autobiographical storytelling show up. My ex boyfriend and I lived in a flat together for the whole month (we made the show together) and his current girlfriend was livid about it so he was upset the whole time. Would not recommend that entire situation.
Talk us through your daily routine for a day at the Fringe
Try not to have a nervous breakdown.
What is the best way to enjoy yourself at the fringe?
Genuinely no idea. I’m just hoping to make it through in one piece.
Ok, where is your favourite place to eat at the Fringe?
Another performers nice flat.
Best thing about performing at the fringe?
Seeing wonderful shows. Hanging out with friends.
Top tips for travelling around the Fringe and getting to shows on time?
Leave plenty of time!
What would be your top three items every performer must take to the fringe?
I’m taking 3 fans. I am terrified of performing when it’s hot cos once I blinded myself with my own sweat on stage.
What’s the secret to successful flyering?
I’m really good at knowing my audience and approaching them directly – middle aged woman and queers of all ages. Anyone who likes cats a weird amount is the vibe.
If people want to find out more about you where can they follow you on social media?
TikTok or Insta both @amymasoncomedy
And Finally in three words – Why should people come and see the show?
Unlike anything else!
