Sunday Book Club: Blame It On Bianca Del Rio, Bianca Del Rio

Every Sunday we are taking a look at the world of books. I read a lot and always want to share my opinions on what I read, so I thought it would be fun to write reviews. Today we are looking at a book by Bianca Del Rio.

Blame It On Bianca Del Rio  (2018)

Bianca Del Rio

Synopsis

When it comes to insult comics, Bianca Del Rio is in a class by herself. Fierce, funny, and fabulous – a would-be love child sired by John Waters and birthed by Joan Rivers – Bianca sandblasted her name in the annals of pop culture on RuPaul’s Drag Race. Thanks to her snarky frankness, impeccable comedic timing, and politically incorrect humour, she became the show’s breakout star, winning its sixth season.

In Blame It On Bianca Del Rio, Bianca shares her opinions loudly and proudly, offering raucous, hilarious, no-holds-barred commentary on the everyday annoyances, big and small, that color her world, and make it a living, albeit amusing, hell for anyone who inhabits it. A collection of biting advice filled with vibrant photos from Bianca’s twisted universe, Blame It On Bianca Del Rio will shock you and keep you laughing. But be warned: it is not for the faint of heart!

Positive Points

I am a fan of Bianca Del Rio and liked her on Ru Paul’s Drag Race so when it was announced she was writing a book I knew I would have to give it a read. The book is solely like an agony aunt based book where she takes the time to answer or solve problems that fans may have. It covers all sorts of topics and she gives her own quirky opinion on them. You will notice very early on that it is very tongue in cheek and a lot of it is answered in a comedic way

Negative Points

Whilst some of the book is enjoyable, you will notice very early on that it is very tongue in cheek and whilst some of the responses come across as fun there are some that I didn’t like and found offensive in modern day society towards women and some religions. This could be that is written in the persona of Bianca Del Rio and also the fact that values and opinions are different in the UK to America but some of it did not sit well with me.

Overall Review

If you are a fan of Bianca Del Rio you may enjoy this book as it is her persona heightened the whole way through. If you are not a fan then I am not sure that this is the book for you. Personally, I like Bianca but I was not a fan of this book and there were a few things that did not sit well with me. Maybe it is because I am reading it in 2024 instead of 2018 where ideologies have changed but I do not think that is the case.
