Hello! Tell us about yourself?
I’m Rachel E. Thorn and I’m an actor and a writer. I love theatre that prioritises the live experience, which is why I perform so much improv (Lying Together and MATES: The Improvised ‘90s Sitcom) and do plenty of clown too. I write sketch comedy, often for impressionists and also for Radio 4 programmes like Dead Ringers and The Now Show.
Tell us all about your show!
Me For You is a play about love – in the face of overwhelming evidence that we’re a despicable race of selfish parasites! It’s a beautifully intimate two-hander about a gay couple who decide to have a baby and the impact climate activism has on their relationship. It’s really funny, but it deals with some pretty major existential questions too. It pulls no punches!
How did you come up with the name of your show that your taking to the fringe?
I love cognitive dissonance, how two opposing ideas can coincide so comfortably. Can we be good parents on a burning planet? Can we love another as well as ourselves? And the title of the show encompasses this because it’s got two meanings, all thanks to the slipperiness of the word “for”. It’s both me dedicating myself to you and me taking your place.
What other acts are you looking forward to seeing at the fringe?
Kieron Hodgson is so skilled and he has a WIP that I will not be missing!
Have you done the fringe before? What are the key pieces of advice you have been given or would give to new groups or people performing at the fringe.
I think the main thing is to know why you’re going and prioritise that. If you just want a good time, then crack on! If you just want to sell tickets, then get flyering. If you want to meet other artists, then go to loads of shows and connect in the bar afterwards.
Talk us through your daily routine for a day at the Fringe
Egg on toast. See a show. Manchego and grape salad. See a show. Flyer. Do my show. Halloumi wrap. See a show. Bliss!
What is the best way to enjoy yourself at the fringe?
The best Fringe moments are the ones you didn’t plan – so make yourself available for the unexpected!
Ok, where is your favourite place to eat at the Fringe?
There’s always a great strip of food vans outside George Square Gardens, with plenty of picnic benches nearby.
Best thing about performing at the fringe?
The audiences. Their energy is so moreish!
Top tips for travelling around the Fringe and getting to shows on time?
Hey, if I knew the answer to this, I wouldn’t spend every August in a constant rush!
What would be your top three items every performer must take to the fringe?
Water bottle. Eye mask. Butter dish. (I can’t stand fridge-cold butter. It wrecks your egg on toast.)
What’s the secret to successful flyering?
Enjoy it! Flyering is an opportunity to connect with people who have come from far away to see some shows. Why wouldn’t you get along?
If people want to find out more about you where can they follow you on social media?

But I much prefer IRL!
And Finally in three words – Why should people come and see the show?
You’re for me.
