With it being Edinburgh Fringe month on the Phoenix Remix, I thought it would be fun to write a few travel articles about the festival and what I have learnt over the years I have visited that there are some interesting topics to discuss.
This Week – Mistakes You May Make….
This week we are talking about mistakes you may make as a visitor to the Fringe – not bad things, I am talking about silly things that EVERYONE does but they are fun to talk about so lets discuss them today!
Booking shows too close together
This is a very common problem – you can plan your day and have all your shows on a schedule and you can still not realise until you are at the venue that you have booked shows too close together. You discover on the day you have five minutes between shows and then you have to run to try and get to the other one on time! The other problem with things like this is that you forget to factor in things like toilet breaks and even food breaks so it can lead to an unintentionally stressful day.
Booking venues too far away
This is also another common issue that can happen when you book shows for the Fringe – you don’t realise how far the venues are away from each other. I have done this so much and I usually discover just before the other show that I have got the next venue information wrong and then have to run across the city. Last year I got very fit running up the hills and across the city.
Not leaving space for new shows
It can be super easy to book all the shows you want to see before you get to the actual festival but one thing I have learnt over time from making the same mistake is try and leave a few spaces for potential new shows to be added. It can be a risky little game but some of the best shows that I have seen I have booked on the day and they have not disappointed it is all about word of mouth.
