Hello! Tell us about yourself?
Hi! I’m Abby Wambaugh! I’m American, and I live in Denmark with my Danish partner and Danish kids and Danish dog Bobby. 3 years ago I woke up in a hospital after a late miscarriage and, high on anesthesia, decided to become a comedian. I think this definitely counts as a midlife crisis but it’s been a really fun and nice one.
Tell us all about your show!
My show is called The First 3 Minutes of 17 Shows and that is exactly what it is. I had a lot of ideas about what I wanted my fringe debut to be so I picked all of them. It includes potential hits like “Party Games I Invented in High School,” and “Old Man Learns Parkour” and a very long impression of the number 9.
How did you come up with the name for the show you’re taking to the fringe?
I thought, how about I name it something that is also the entire synopsis? And then I did!
What other acts are you looking forward to seeing at the fringe?
I can never see enough of Lara Ricote, who is also directing my show! Josh Glanc, Jin Hao Li, Zoe Brownstone, Derek Mitchell, Dee Allum, Tarot, Nina Conti, Ahir Shah, Vlad Vllach, Will Robbins, Mel McGlensey, and One Man Musical by Flo and Joan!!
Have you done the fringe before? What are the key pieces of advice you have been given or would give to new groups or people performing at the fringe?
I was part of the Pleasance Reserve last year- so I got to do 15 minutes a night in a nice venue with my buddies and not worry about ticket sales. It was so nice!! And I still got really tired!! The advice I’m giving myself is to get 8 hours of sleep and stand in direct sunlight whenever I have the chance.
Talk us through your daily routine for a day at the Fringe
Oh jeez I don’t know yet but I hope I come up with a good one.
What is the best way to enjoy yourself at the fringe?
Remember to sit or stand in the sun when you can!! Sit in the top front of the double decker busses. Let yourself off the hook for not being able to see everything you want to see. Get some pocket nuts.
Ok, where is your favourite place to eat at the Fringe?
I like to eat a little dish I like to call “A whole cucumber while I walk down the street”.
Best thing about performing at the fringe?
It is so freaking inspiring to see what other people have come up with for their shows. And then sometimes something BLOWS YOU AWAY and then you get to be friends with someone who BLEW YOU AWAY
Top tips for travelling around the Fringe and getting to shows on time?
Keep some nuts in your pockets so you can eat quietly at all times.
What would be your top three items every performer must take to the fringe?
Omg last year I was in student housing and I brought my own duvet cover for the bed and everyone who looked in my room thought I was a PRINCE. Also keep some nuts in your pockets would ya.
What’s the secret to successful flyering?
The way to a potential audience’s heart is through their stomach- offer them a flyer AND some pocket nuts (make sure you specify type: cashew/brazil/mixed so they don’t think you are being weird).
If people want to find out more about you, where can they follow you on social media?
The most reliable place is @abbywambaugh on instagram!
I also have a really great podcast called Help Hole and it’s @helpholepod on instagram. My co-host is Sofie Hagen and we take turns reading Self Help books and telling each other about them. It’s so fun and actually making our lives better.
And Finally in three words – Why should people come and see the show?
Actually 17 Shows.
