Hello! Tell us about yourself?
Hey hey hey! The name’s Will BF – don’t wear it out – square!
Tell us all about your show!
I’m sorry I called you a square. This year I’m taking up a brand new Sketch Comedy show called MOON TEAM IIIV – which tells the tragic tale of the most loathed film in cinema history, sequel to the most beloved film of all time: Moon Team. Blending a million (quote me on that) sci-fi tropes, MOON TEAM IIIV will be a narrative sketch odyssey through the DVD age, packing more than is reasonable or SAFE into a tight hour (don’t quote me on that).
How did you come up with the name of your show that your taking to the fringe?
For Moon Team IIIV I’m trying to skewer the ‘sequelitis’ that all sci-fi seems to have caught – so a very very generic Space Movie name seemed appropriate: What is a Moon Team, who’s on the Moon Team, so on and so forth! If you are a gigabrain megamind type you might EVEN be able to work out what IIIV means… i am veryveryveryvery clever ain’t I
What other acts are you looking forward to seeing at the fringe?
I’m really looking forward to seeing Alex Franklin: Gurl Code because in addition to being one of the top comedians on the alternative circuit at the moment, she is also my housemate so I would like to go along to say things like ‘hi’, ‘how are you’, and ‘Edinburgh is nothing like back home where we live eh!’
Have you done the fringe before? What are the key pieces of advice you have been given or would give to new groups or people performing at the fringe.
This will be my 5th fringe, and 2nd solo show. They’ve ranged from a classic sketch show, to a narrative sketch show set in the world’s largest leisure centre, and even a Scooby Doo parody show for kids. My advice is that the Fringe is a place where anything can take flight and that you should let your creativity run free – sky’s the limit! Although also, the Scooby Doo show was switched to be ‘for kids’ because the only slot we could get was at 11am – so my other piece of advice would be: be realistic.
Talk us through your daily routine for a day at the Fringe
I usually commute to the Fringe so my day starts at 5am when I head off to Kings Cross Station for the 5:34am train to Edinburgh Waverley. The train is usually quite empty at this time for some reason, so I spend most of the time switching between the seats – just for the thrill of it
I arrive at the station at 11:30 and head straight for my venue on Grassmarket, smiling in the knowledge I have once again outsmarted the Edinburgh landlords. After the two shows it’s right back to Edinburgh Waverley (flyering the whole way) to head home on the 5:49pm train to be in bed by 11pm and ready to kick the Fringe’s ass all over again tomorrow!
What is the best way to enjoy yourself at the fringe?
For me it’s the little things that make the Fringe so magical. What are they called again…those little things – kind of like a poster, but much smaller…Fl-…Fliers! That’s it! Fliers! I love fliers!
Ok, where is your favourite place to eat at the Fringe?
Obviously it’s the 2nd mosque kitchen!
Best thing about performing at the fringe?
The women! So many amazing female theatre-makers, performers and comedians all shining like the stars they are!
Top tips for travelling around the Fringe and getting to shows on time?
I find infiltrating the silent discos that move around Edinburgh is the best way to get around quickly while remaining unnoticed. If you’ve played Assassin’s Creed you know.
What would be your top three items every performer must take to the fringe?
Pants x3
(I forgot all my pants last year: true story)
what’s the secret to successful flyering?
SMILING!
Which for the uninitiated stands for: Stand upright. Mask your emotions. Initiate pleasant face. Lie. Incline your head by 45º to appear approachable. Never take ‘no’ for an answer. Give out a flier every minute or no dinner.
If people want to find out more about you where can they follow you on social media?
Twitter and instagram @willbfff – the extra F’s stand for funny!
And Finally in three words – Why should people come and see the show?
I love you.
