Hello! Tell us about yourself?
I am a stand up comedian, writer, actor, performer, director and noise emitter. I have fairly low blood pressure, which is lucky considering my personality.
Tell us all about your show!
I am taking risks in this show, and inviting my audience to take risks with me. I’ll be doing my trademark blend of emotional honesty and highly amusing asides but conveyed in ways you might not be expecting.
How did you come up with the name of your show that you’re taking to the fringe?
It’s a show about risking something emotionally. As a light entertainer, I had a thought that often occurs to me; “What’s the most showbiz way of getting that idea across?” – thus the title Emotional Daredevil was born, slimy and screaming, into this bleak uncaring world
What other acts are you looking forward to seeing at the fringe?
78 Australian clowns, Sh!t Faced The Vagina Monologues and Bernard Manning.
Have you done the fringe before? What are the key pieces of advice you have been given or would give to new groups or people performing at the fringe.
You have to like and/or believe in your show, if you don’t, how can you expect anyone else to? Liking your show will help you when things are really tough. If you don’t like your show, work on it.
Talk us through your daily routine for a day at the Fringe
Wake up. Walk home. Wash, walk into town, weep. Get blocked from crossing the street by the silent disco. Have to hire a new flyering team as the previous flyerers have been kidnapped by shadowy crime figures. Buy a sandwich for £28. Walk to the venue. Begin performing the show. Change lives. End the show. Walk home. Receive box containing fingers of original flyerers. Go to pub.
What is the best way to enjoy yourself at the fringe?
See shows. The Edinburgh Festival is the greatest collection of performers being creative on the planet, you will see people put their hearts and souls out there, be very silly, take risks and succeed. Don’t let all the noise take away from the magic. It is magic.
Ok, where is your favourite place to eat at the Fringe?
Your mum’s house #banter #tiktok #edfringe2024
Best thing about performing at the fringe?
Getting to present the work you most want people to see
Top tips for travelling around the Fringe and getting to shows on time?
Citymapper. Be on time, will you? It isn’t hard. 10 minutes is not enough to get from the Underbelly to the Pleasance. Come on now.
what’s the secret to successful flyering?
Sincerity. Audiences can smell bullshit, Scottish audiences doubly so. Be honest when selling a show.
If people want to find out more about you where can they follow you on social media?
@AlexyBennett on twitter and @alexanderybennett on everything else
And Finally in three words – Why should people come and see the show?
It’ll be different
